My great-grandmother, Leah (Hall) Creech was his daughter with an Allie or Alabama or Alliebam Hamblin or Hamblen. I can't find any information on her, but there's an Alabama Hall with a son that would have been a couple of years older than Grandma so maybe that's her. I've never gotten a straight answer on whether or not they were actually married. I'm assuming they were since Leah was a Hall. Apparently when Chad married Susan, he had custody of or possession of my great-grandmother, because she told us that when she was small, she went to town with Chad, met a strange man that knelt down in front of her and asked her if she'd like to go home with him. Her father told her to go with him, and that's how she ended up being raised by Chadwell's sister Elizabeth Jane and her husband James. When Leah got married to Arthur Creech, her step-son, Whitley, met one of "Sude" (Susan) Shackelford's children, her daughter, Carla Etta, and they were married. (This used to confuse the heck out of me when I was a kid at family reunions! She was raised by Sude's parents, was Etta's cousin, but no, it was all right that Whitley married Etta- they weren't related!) Whitley and Etta lived most of their lives in Battle Creek Michigan. I also was able to take a picture of a portrait done of Chadwell Hall- at least that's who the note on the back of the picture says it is, and it was kept by Leah for most of her life, so I'm assuming it really is.. It's in pretty rough shape, but considering it's done on paper, and over a hundred years old, it's not bad! I think I may have tweaked it a bit in PhotoShop to get rid of a couple of tears and some water stains in the background. Anyway, here's the URL where I uploaded it. http://portfolio.iu.edu/jegreer/chadwell_hall.jpg If anyone has any information on Leah's mother, for sure how Chad died- again, I've heard rumors, but nothing confirmed!- I would really appreciate it.
