Surnames: WARD, RICE, WARREN Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3AB.2ACI/6513.1.1 Message Board Post: I descend from John Murphy Ward and Nancy Warren's daughter, Susan Ward who married James Franklin Rice. Susan Ward was born on March 13, 1853, most likely at Peach Blossom on the right fork of Straight Creek where her parents made their home. She and JF Rice married on Nov 9, 1871, according to his Family Parallel bible that is still in our family. They had the following children: 1- Benjamin "Ben" Ajax Rice 2- Robert Groves Rice 3- Rufus Murphy Rice 4- James "Jimmy" Blaine Rice 5- Mary Eliza Rice* my great-grandmother 6- Nancy "Nanny" Rice 7- George Finley Rice 8- Sudie Rice 9- Minerva "Nervie" Evelyn Rice There are records regarding John Murphy Ward at the archives in Frankfort during the time period just after the Civil War. He had taken some men to court for stealing his belongings during the war, and then dropped the suit. Some of the records are in his handwriting with his signature, and it is beautiful. As Edgerly states in her book, the Wards were known for their writing skills, and Murph Ward's is a fine example.
