Sometimes it is a lifetime. For sure it doesn't happen in two weeks' time. Having the software so that you can document your findings is a great thing. You may have 10 minutes to work on something and/or you might have 10 hours. Either way the work will be there is you enter it in your data base or scan in documents or type in specific death and birth references. Remember that old saying: "there is no truth without proof". Genealogy without proof is mythology. It is often a good idea to place individual posts such as if you wanted more information on Amanda HELTON. Make that one posting with the census and/or information I have given to you. Make another one on some other topic such as school records for your father. Information will come to you from out of the blue and generally when you are least expecting it. Try to pay your information forward and help someone else when you are able to do so. I cannot tell you the times I have started to help someone and before I am through we discover we are related. Just as in your case, I am also related to any number of the surnames that connect to you. CREECH is one of them. HOWARD is another of them. These were small communities and earlier on there was a lot of marrying back and forth among these families. I am assuming he recognized this child as his. If so, it is possible (depending upon who was in charge of writing it) that she might have been mentioned. He didn't die all that long ago. You might even try calling direct to several of the mortuaries there in Corbin to see if anyone has any old records on him. Also, you should make a posting to the Whitley Co.Message Board to ask which newspaper/s would have likely carried an Obit. Remember, in Corbin, and depending upon which part of the city you lived in, three counties are involved. Knox, Laurel and Whitley are all in one part or the other of Corbin. My name is Jennifer (Blevins)Prejean March 24th, 1979. The Thomas Blevins you mentioned is my father, son of Kathern (Burkhart) Blevins June 11, 1917 and Alton Ned Middleton April 5th 1923. Ralph and Ned were brothers and i believe his birthday was in July of 1920. Their parents were a William (Bill) Middleton and Amanda Helton/Hilton as far as I can tell. Other than that I don't have any other information about them. My grandmother moved to Newport Ky some time around 1963 and until recently would not speak of the past. I also found a man named Homer Datson listed on the 1930 census as a boarder of the William Middleton home but have never heard this name before and have no clue what the relation was to the family. Author: joycecollins Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.harlan/14801.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, Because you have not given much of anything in the way of dates or names or some relationships, it is really hard to get any kind of handle on these folks. As you probably may know, the census records go only up through 1930 that are available to the public. You have mentioned Thomas BLEVINS and I find this information. You could order from the Commonwealth of KY his actual birth record to possibly learn more. BLEVINS, Thomas M. born 9-29-1954 in Harlan Co., KY - birth NOT recorded until 1961. Maiden name of mother listed as: Katherine BURKHART; Vol. 196, Cert #92297 However, you do not give your own name or your parents' names or what relationship that Thomas BLEVINS is to you. I am not really a MIDDLETON researcher but if we can get some information out of you, perhaps other MIDDLETON researchers can help you further. I always suggest the same thing to people who want to research their people. And. . . that is to run out and buy yourself some genealogy software. Family Tree Maker would be one good example but there are others. With that you can begin with yourself and add in your parents, your siblings, your children, your spouse and his people. Then you begin to work yourself backwards. Another question is that you state your grandmother is 91 years of age and has dementia but. . . you don't say what her name is or if she is your maternal grandmother or your paternal grandmother. Need to have that information. There are several Ralph MIDDLETONs in the census but I have no way to know which one he is. When and where did he die? Do you have any idea where or when he was born or who his parents were. I assume that both Ralph and Ned were brothers. Did they share the same parents? Who were they? When also did Ned MIDDLETON die and approx. when was he born and when and where did he die? Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA joycetcollins@cs.com p.s. You need to return to this message board and respond to my query. DON'T BEGIN A NEW MESSAGE. RESPOND TO THIS ONE SO IT ALL STAYS TOGETHER. Once I have some more information from you, I will probably be able to give you more information. Are you certain that this "Ned" did not have some other name. Sometimes Ned can also be a Ted or an Edward which is why I am asking. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He also had a daughter by another woman whose name I do not know. I believe the childs name is/was Karen or Sharron and she was born around 1944 /- a few years. Ned latter married a woman named Bobbie and as far as anyone has told me so far they had no children. Ned has past and so has his brother Ralph. This is where my knowledge of the Middletons ends. Author: KandyBackAgee Surnames: Ratliff, Creech, Hogg Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.harlan/14800/mb.ashx Message Board Post: NOTE: I DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS INDIVIDUAL. JUST POSTING THE OBITUARY ON OMEGA HOGG FROM THE HAMILTON (OH) JOURNAL-NEWS 12/2/08 Omega Faye Ratliff Hogg had a massive stroke on April 21, 2008, the day of her beloved husband's death. She passed away peacefully on November 29, 2008. Omega was born on March 24, 1927 in Lynch, KY to Arka (Creech) and James Butler Ratliff. She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Hubert Hogg, on July 26, 1946, and was the matriarch of a large and loving family. She was blessed with five children: Linda (Chris) Benninghofen, Brenda (Glen) Roddy, Dr. B. Gayle (David) Niehaus, Stephen (Cindy) Hogg and David (Debbie) Hogg. Besides her faith, family was the most important part of her life. She was happiest when spending time with her husband of 61 years, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with family to Florida, Hilton Head Island, and to the Memorial Day family tradition for nearly 50 years, Cumberland Falls. Omega was quite gifted academically. She "skipped" several grades of school and received a "full ride" (a! cademic college scholarship) that was interrupted by the occurrence of World War II. People who knew Omega well were awestruck by her ability to remember number sequences such as dates, figures, phone numbers, etc. She was a virtual encyclopedia and enjoyed learning until the day she died. She enjoyed writing (and was published), reading, gardening, cooking and baking. She and her late husband, Hubert, raised a vegetable garden and nurtured a beautiful flower garden for many years. The flower garden caused many strollers to stop by and converse about its beauty. Omega especially enjoyed the many events at the Hogg-N-Haus Family Farm over the years. All who continue to attend, especially friends Don and Gertie McCaffrey and the Hogg, Niehaus, Benninghofen, Roddy, Katalinich, and Prospero extended families will sorely miss her. She will also be missed by special Canadian friends, Bill and Mary Getty and local friends, Bill and Shirley Smith, the Milbauer family, Donnie Smith,! Thelma McDowell and many more. Besides her children, Omega leaves 11 grandchildren: Krista (Clemens II) Bramlage, Scott (Kara) Benninghofen, Alicia (Jason) Romer, Karianne (Jeff) Shaw, Rebecca (Michelle) Baker, Erik (Ann) Niehaus, Heather (Matt) Kirkendall, Jenny Hogg, Jess Hogg, Josh Hogg and Jacob Hogg.
