The Myrtle Stewart Grills in the obit below is my great-aunt Myrtle Grills. She may not have not born in Harlan County (despite the obit saying she was a Harlan County native). She always told me she was born "across the mountain" in Virginia in Lee County (it is early and I am not totally coherent, but I believe the name was St. Charles, VA) . She used to hike across the mountain with the kids in tow to visit her family. Now her one son, GB, was actually named Green Berry so there could be a connection. Aunt Myrtle married Henry Grills who was the brother of my grandmother Ellen Grills. I'll try to think of what else I know or can find in my records. I do have some pics of her I could scan and send to folks. I found Green and Myrtle's parents...Ben and Rose Stewart on the 1900 census, but I am still wondering why Green and Myrtle were living with their Aunt and Uncle "Dean" by the 1910 census. I found a Rose Stewart on a later census, but I am not sure if it is the same Rose Stewart that was married to Ben. I found someone elses family tree with a Rose (Pace) Stewart that listed her as having died in 1903 or 1904 and I was wondering if maybe that is my Rose and maybe she died in childbirth with Myrtle who was born in 1903. This of course would explain why Green and Myrtle are living with their Aunt and Uncle by the 1910 census. Is there anyone out there who knows anything about this Stewart line? I am not positive it is the one you are looking for.. but my aunt and cousin still live on Red Bud Hill in Evarts. There is a cemetery right on the side of the hill that they call Red Bud Cemetery. It has some old and even unmarked graves. My aunt has babies buried there without markers and they would be in their late to mid 70s now if they had lived. I then looked for George and Margaret Dean on the 1900 census and found them with 3 daughters and on the same page I found a James Stewart with a wife named "Febe". Searching on those two names I found that Febe is Elizabeth Pheobe "Dean" (George's Sister). James and Pheobe Stewart seem a little too old for Green and Myrtle to be their children but I think they are definitely related -- maybe grandparents? Does anyone out there know who the parents of Green and Myrtle are and why they ended up with George and Margaret Dean?? Thanks for your help!!
