Saylor (date of birth about 1848). I have been reading the posts about John P's dad and there seems to be some confusion on my part. Some say it is John Granville Saylor and some say it is not. Is anyone sure who John P's father or grandfather is? Also, I have him married to Sarah Elizabeth in 1870 but then married to Mary in 1880. Did Sarah Elizabeth die? Any info would be helpful. They seem to be very elusive before the 1870 census. I have never been successful in tracking down James or any of his children except Hiram. Hiram is my g great grandpa. I always found it frustrating how they seemed to change what state they were born in. I've seen Hiram listed as being born in Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky. Only the Lord knows why he'd change his birth state so often. Thanks for posting this especially considering that you aren't related. Thanks so much! He was about 21 in 1880. He married a lady named Alice but I have no clue what her maiden name is or where they married. I have hit a stone wall with these Jones'. Any help would be appreciated! I believe Jacob and Hiram's father was a James Jones b. abt 1811 but I cannot find him prior or after the 1870's census in Harlan(or any where else for that matter). 3. Does anyone remember what the Highbank School and Baxter Schools looked like inside? I have a pict of the Highbank school on the outside. My dad said it had two rooms when he went in the 1930's but I was wondering what the coal stove looked like and what the desks looked like. He said they were against the wall. I'm writing his life story and want to describe his schools. He said he went one year to the Baxter School. I don't know what it looked like. He also said there was a pump outside to get drinks. My dad was Garrett Cooper. Thanks. The Rebecca BAILEY b. abt. 1810 and the Elizabeth BAILEY who married George Crider were lst cousins. Their fathers were brothers. However, if you trace Elizabeth BAILEY who married George CRIDER back you get Elizabeth's parents as Andrew Jackson BAILEY and Anna KELLY. I am related through Anna KELLY. Whereas you descend back to Jonathan KELLY, I go back to John J. KELLY married to Hannah/Henrietta RITTER who produced Mary KELLY in abt. 1808 in Lee Co., VA. This Mary KELLY grew up and married William BROWN b. abt. 1804 in Lee Co., VA. Mary KELLY and William BROWN are my maternal ggg-grandparents. I am related to the Rebecca BAILEY b. abt. 1828 who married John BROWN, s/o William and Mary KELLY BROWN and who lived the majority of their lives in Harlan Co., KY.
