Sam Rodavica---Germany--Lynch Ky Sam Radovich ... this is my grandfather ... he was actually from Antivira Montenegro which was a part of Yugoslavia. He boarded a ship in Bremen Germany and came to the USA. From there, he made his way to KY where he became a mine foreman. In 1938, he was killed in a slate fall in the coal mines. I ordered my grandfather's file from the National Archives. The papers I received from the Archives even had a picture of my grandfather on his citizenship papers. Have you checked with Ellis Island for ship passengers list? If you can locate them on there, they will probably have some good records. http://www.ellisisland.org/ ----- Original Message ----- From: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: <KYHARLAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 23, 2009 2:10 PM Subject: [KYHARLAN] citizenship files > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: nanny33 > Surnames: Miller > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.harlan/14843/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Can someone please tell me where a person living in Harlan County in the > 1920's would have gone to apply for their citizenship? For what it is worth, Taggant is actually Taggart, and my mother actually knew him. I have not been able to find Mathias Brown in 1900. Have you had any luck for that census year for him? However, the U. S. Citizenship and Service Help Center can be contacted at: Info@800citizen.com You might get some information by contacting them. At the present time, citizenship packages and test prep kits can be ordered from the Commonwealth of KY at Frankfort. If you come back and provide the specific name/s you are looking for plus some ages and other identifying information such as a wife and/or children, we could check out the 1930 Fed. Census. At least that could show you where they came from and what year they immigrated and possibly what their year of citizenship was. Depends on the questions asked on the 1930 Fed. Census. I believe the reason you cannot locate Isom is some missreading or misspelling variation of his last name. I must have tried several different spellings and tried using the Soundex with no success. Could not locate him under his wife's or childrens' names either which again means there is a "spelling problem" we are just not picking up on. Yes, I am a long way from KY. However, I was born in Harlan Co. in 1939 as was my Mother, Maudie Nell BROWN TAYLOR b. 1915 in Harlan; died in 2002 in CA. Both my Dad's and my Mother's people were a long-time in KY. It would be nice to locate her with a household prior to the Isom marriage. I know I have not been able to locate Isom in 1910 or 1920 which makes for a huge gap in time.
