My research on the Simpson's was over 20 years ago and I only researched them in conjunction with looking for Elsie's parents and her children. Now as for proof that the Mary in 1860 is Elsie's daughter.....it's always possible that could be wrong. It's been so long ago that I can't remember how it was determined and I'm not sure where in my paper files it could possibly be.

Check your 1850 census for the children of Wilkerson and Mary (Jones) Howard and you will see they had a daughter named Louisa (often changed to Eliza) born ca 1838. She married Beatty Day in 1859. Wilkerson and Mary also had a daughter Elizabeth born ca 1840--she was the one who married G. W. Ledford in 1861.---Janette

Apparently he was deceased by 1870 and Mary is living next door to his widow Sarah, with Samuel Simpson's widow, Sarah Simmons Simpson and her son Jesse, who she married later that year. They had one child named Eliza (Lizzie), who married Jess Pennington. Lizzie and Jess had one son named Wilson (Wilse) who was raised by Mary Simpson and her 2nd husband Abijah Gross. Wilse went by the Gross name. Lizzie married 2nd Chad Nolan. My connection to the Simpson's is through Elsie. She and John Gross were my 2nd great grandparents.

Yes I do have the records of a Mary Simpson marrying on the dates you refer to, in the home of Sarah Simpson. Witnesses were John Gross and John Simpson. But I thought she was the daughter of Chrismon and Sarah. Who was the Sarah Simpson that you are refering to as the mother of Jesse. because Chrismon and Sarah Simpson had no son named Jesse., Their son's names were Elihu and Abraham. So I am getting very confused now, again

I am descended from his daughter Sallie, born,c. 1842. I have had to track my family through the census, because Sallie never married. She had quite a few children though. She left Harlan County and suppossedly followed James Ledford to Menifee County. Her oldest son, William Beaureguard Sergent married in Menifee County in 1880.Sallie died in 1923 in Wolfe County. I've seen sights that say James was born in Ireland. Some say Virginia. I've seen some that say Abraham was also Ephraim, who married Elizabeth Hodge. I would surely appreciate anyone who would share info with me. Thank you, Martha Jo Sargent Norris
