The delayed birth certificate is of my grandfather Benjamin Franklin Howard the age of 79 refers to the Dr. who was a non relative affidant. Aunt Bertha is Bertha Howard daughter of Benjamin granddaughter of Elhannon and Jane A. Howard. Aunt Varilla is a daughter of Elhannon and Jane A. Howard. Death date of 29 Jan 1908 is the death date of Elhannon Howard. Sorry for any and all confusion. gloria

My reason is that Elhanon Howard son of Ben and Lucy is 3 years old in 1860 and 11 years old in 1870. Based on the Census below I believe YOUR Elhanon (EL) is he son of: James G. I got side tracked for a little bit, but here are some more of the old obits my cousin June gave to me. This time they are Reynolds obits. Troy Reynolds Troy Reynolds, 84, of Edgewater, Fla., passed away Tuesday, May 25, 1983, at Halifax Hospital in Florida. For many years Mr. Reynolds was a familiar sight at the entrance of the Edgewater Community Center where he would play his banjo every election day. He was a retired warehouseman from the United Fuel Company, Pikeville, Ky., He was born in Pinetop, Ky., and had lived in Florida 23 years, coming from Millard, Ky. He was a member of the Edgewater Shuffleboard Club and the First Baptist Church, Edgewater. He is survived by his wife, Neola; two sons, Paul J. Reynolds of Cupertino, Calif., and Troy Reynolds Jr. of Chicago; a brother, Arthur Reynolds of Mallie; and a sister, Armenta Hayes of Milan, Inc. Services were held Friday, May 27, at the Edgewater Cemetery. Dudley Edgewater Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Henderson Reynolds Henderson Reynolds, age 90, of Sassafras, Ky., passed away Tuesday, July 12, 1963, at the Knott County Health Care Center in Hindman. He was born July 21, 1892, a son of the late Meredith Reynolds and Elizabeth Reynolds. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the United Mine Workers. He was a member of the Smithboro Baptist Church. He is survived by four sons, Burster Reynolds and Charles Reynolds, both of Sassafras, Ollie James Reynolds of Austin, Inc., and Tom Reynolds of Whitesburg; three daughters, Syrilda Owens of Sassafras, and Mary Balkcom and Hazel Reynolds, both of Gordon, Ga.; two brothers, Bert Reynolds of Glowmar, and Eli Reynolds of Ohio; one sister, Mae; 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 14, at 1 p.m. at the Smithboro Baptist Church with Bert McCroner officiating. Burial will follow in the Carr Fork Memorial Cemetery. The Hindman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Canton Reynolds Canton Reynolds, age 81, of Hindman, Ky., died at Mountain Home V.A. Hospital, Johnson City, Tenn., from a short illness. He was born March 30, 1903, the son of Jonas Tildon Reynolds and Rosabelle Short. He was a retired veteran of World War I and World War II. He is survived by two brothers, Cantrell of Lynchburg, Va., and Raynor of Marquette, Mich.; two sisters, Amanda Slone of Mitchell, Ind., and Elizabeth Venters of Winchester, Ind.; four sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. at Hindman Funeral Home Chapel, Hindman, with Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial followed in the Reynolds Family Cemetery, Mallie. Hindman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. PG Note: The year was 1985 Jesse L. Reynolds Jesse L. Reynolds, age 63, passed away May 7, 1984, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Tampa, Florida. He was born June 27, 1920, in Mallie, Kentucky, a son of Marion and Luanna Maggard Reynolds. He was a resident of St. Cloud, Florida at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Marie Collins Reynolds. Arrangements were conducted by Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan, Indiana. Burial was made in the Little Memorial Church Cemetery in Milan. PG Note: Jesse Reynolds was my uncle. Tivis Reynolds Tivis Reynolds, age 83, of Lackey, Ky., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 1984, at Our Lade of the Way Hospital, Martin, following a short illness. He was born Jan. 10, 1901 in East McDowell, a son of the late Ferd and Louisa Turner Reynolds. He is survived by his wife, Dallas Allen Reynolds of Langley; two daughters, Zelfa Osborne of Ashtabula, Oh., and Zella Conn of Allen; four step-daughters, Ida Flakes of Orlando, Fla., Minnie Iryzary and Meredith Biell, both of New York City, N.Y., Lorrani Ratliff of Clearwater, Fla.; one stepson, Earl Allen of Maine; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Retha Reynolds Retha A. Reynolds, 75, of Elgin, died Friday, Sept. 20, in St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. She was born April 6, 1910 in Garrard County, Ky., the daughter of Felix and Lula Winsted Short. She was a resident of Ohio most of her life before moving to Elgin in 1977. She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Helen) Connore of Elgin; a son, Kenneth Reynolds of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Mary Flaner of Louisville, Ky., two brothers, Melvin Short of Florida and Ernest Short of Hamilton, Ohio; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, in 1960, a sister and two brothers. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, in the Laird Funeral Home to St. Thomas More Church for Mass at 10. Burial will be in Kettering, Ohio, Tuesday. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, where prayers for the Christian wake will be recited at 5, and until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. **PG Note: St. Joseph Hospital and St. Thomas More Catholic Church are both in Elgin, Illinois. I assume that this obituary came from a local paper as my cousin that gave me the obits (June Du Charme) is from that area.

With affidanit Jane Alifair Howard Johnson mother and a G. Fuley? MD non relative age 79 (delayed birth certicate issued in 1943. Death is 29 Jan 1908 as relayed to me by my Aunt Bertha a granddaughter who got the information from Aunt Varilla a daughter of Elhannon and Jane. He is suppose to have died of spinal menengitis. I have a copy of a tin type of Elhannon and Jane and the picture was marked as E. L. Howard that is why I am so confused. What I find is Elhannon Henry so are they one and the same or is there a Elhannon L. Howard out there? gloria
