    3. On June 27th I received an email from Steve Stratton which read: -----Original Message----- From: Steve Stratton [mailto:stevecth@setel.com] Sent: Thursday, June 16, 2005 3:50 PM To: dudpa@runnelsfork.com Subject: W. J. Amburgey Ms. Goelz, I do property research for an oil and gas company here in eastern kentucky. I came across the name of w. j. amburgey, who was married to an ida may. This was around 1945. I saw your listing on rootsweb concerning a w. j. amburgey but he was married to a Nancy Hunnicut (first marriage??). Any information you have concerning w. j. and his heirs would be greatly appreciated. Steven Stratton Since then Marilyn contacted him, and several emails have flown back and forth. The bottom line is that if you are a descendant of Wiley J. Amburgey who married Nancy Honeycutt and Ida Mae Vance - you should contact Steve Stratton, as you may be eligible for part of the estate involving oil and gas rights to Wiley J.' s property. The numerous emails were as follows, and I apologize if you receive this more than once since I am posting it to multiple lists. Phyllis Hi Dot, Thanks for the Information!!! I do have a Scanner, but DO NOT HAVE THE BOOK! Wish I did! Anyway I re-did the list and below is the response from Steve, also he has given me permission to post his search. If you all know of any the the Heirs of W. J. Amburgey that are still living from his Children, and thier Children, they need to be notified to make contact with this person so that they can recieve what is rightfully thiers. Very important. I did know that W. J. Amburgey owned all of: Wolfpen, Rockhouse-Letcher Co. KY, but was not aware of this property. The Heirs need to make contact so that they can get what is due them. > Thanks, > Marilyn Harris marileaf@bellsouth.net > > > From: "Steve Stratton" <stevecth@setel.com> > Date: 2005/08/01 Mon AM 09:45:34 EDT > To: "Marilyn Harris" <marileaf@bellsouth.net> > Subject: Re: W. J. Amburgey > > Ms. Harris, > > First of all, I work for Cut Through Hydrocarbon, a small company that drills oil and gas wells here in eastern Kentucky. We have operations in Knott, Floyd, Pike, Perry, Johnson & Magoffin Counties. We operate approximately 75 wells. As for who and how the W. J. Amburgey heirs came about this property. In 1934 W. J. Amburgey bought a tract of approximately 60 acres on Ashlog Hollow of Owen Branch, just north of Hindman, Kentucky. In 1945, he and his wife (Ida May) sold the surface only to Thomas Hays. They retained the oil and gas rights under this property. From sources on rootsweb.com, I have found a list of his children, namely: Dulcie Amburgey (see last) Lester Amburgey (1899-1967) m Beatrice Haywood, had Douglas 1922, Eugene 1923, & infant 1927; m Ruth Beverly 1931, had Charlnez 1936 Lottie Amburgey (1910- ) m Estill Martin, had 5 children Vinta Amburgey (1913- ) m Sidney Adams 1940, 3 children Delta Amburgey (1903-1944) unm Gorman Amburgey (1903-1949) Gertie Amburgey (1903) unm Norris Amburgey (1907-1982) no wife Ola Amburgey Lola Amburgey (1919-1919) Maynard Amburgey (1915-1970) m Frances Lee; had Donald J (1937) m Janet Thorpe, Larry L (1936) m Shelby J Hays & had Sammy Lee 1959, Valerie J. 1961, Angie 1963 Sheila E (1942, m Orville Weeker, had 2 sons Sharon A (1944) m#1 William Payne, m#2 Gary Pace, m#3 Tom Vivian; had 1 child by each husband Barbara (1946-1946) Vernon (1926) Dulcie (1927-1976) m#1 Charles Wilson, m#2 Fred Caudill Now, W. J. had a will when he died and he left a Lottie Martin as executor and Gerta & Norris were to receive the royalty from the oil & gas that was at that time under lease to another gas company. This other company did not drill on the property in question, so that lease is now invalid. Also, since W. J. did not make a dispostion of the oil and gas property in his will, it fell to his children. (Now if Ida May died after W. J., her children, if any others than those listed above, may own an interest also in this oil and gas property). The present ownership of this property should be the children of W. J. or their children since I'm sure some if not all of those listed above are deceased. Actual ownership interest will depend on whether his children had wills or died without issue. > > In order to make this easier for me to unravel, I would like to have a list that shows a contact person & phone number for each child of W. J.. That way I could hoepfully keep everyone straight. There's a three-year discrepancy between the 1930 census and the age he was when he died. However, he died in Seattle at 78 and his middle initial was N. Dad says my grandma was born in '33. Since George and Mary were still living together in 1930 for the census, I'd say George and Elsie got married sometime in those three years.
