Elizabeth Betty SERGENT, daughter of James H. SERGENT and Elizabeth WYNN married Jonah L. SHELTON from NC Perhaps my Uncle James E. EVANS never had a child out of wedlock. That may be why no records can be found! He can no longer defend himself against rumors since he died last year. Records or not, my Aunt Sylvia Jewel BALL was born August 5, 1921. She and uncle Jimmy's first child, James Thomas EVANS died when he was about 8 months old. He is buried at the Ages, Brookside cemetery in the same family plot as his grandparents, Silas M. BALL and Deborah "Debby" SERGENT. KYDEB1941@aol.COM

If anyone has access to Harlan County marriage records, I need a lookup for grandparents marriage..... year is not know for certain, but persons are Charles David Smith Adelaide (Delida) Fillippinie (this name is quite often seriously mispelled - like I've even seen it Phillpenny). They are believed to be married in 1915 - in the week following Christmas from anywhere from 26 - to 30. Much obliged. Dusty SMith

I was born in Harlan. I also am searching for genealogical records for the Cosmah family. My dad was Emanuel L Cosmah (born 1916). His dad was Panaiotis Cosmas (Pete Cosmah) who arrived at Ellis Island from Tenedos Greece in 1905. Pete married Paralee Andrews (from Fannin County Texas) sometime between 1905 and 1908; they lived in Tinsley (Bell County KY). Both Pete and Paralee Cosmah are probably buried near Tinsley, but I haven't found cemetery records for either one. Paralee was half Cherokee; she was born in 1886 and died in 1921. Pete was born in 1883 and died in 1933. Please let me know if you think this is part of your family line. Best regards, Linda Cosmah Walker
I am a Redwine descendant, thru Wiley and Avis Redwine. My Redwines were called Redwine Indians, and lived in an around Harlan County in the mountians. My mother told of cousins hiking 35 mile down to Kitts, and likely Ewarts, spending the night and leaving for home before day light. Someone suggested they were Moon Shiners back packing thier product out or down to the valleys for sale. I can not confirm or dispute that claim. Do any of your Redwines still live in Harlan or near by, or over the mountianin Appalacia. Id' sure like to hear from you, if they do.
