    2. RESPONSE: Hello, I ran your Beatrice Beulah RAY through my KBI CD's and came up with this which "may" be her: RAY, Beatrice b. 7-29-1918 in Knox Co., KY; Vol. 77, Cert 38184; maiden name of mother given as: Ruth HENDRICK Perhaps you will recognize it by your grandmother's name. I will tell you that I was unable to pull Ruth or Beatrice RAY on the 1920 or 1930 Fed. Census in KY in one of the nearby counties to Knox Co. I also was unable to locate any more births for this Ruth HENDRICK in KY in Knox or some of the surrounding counties. You can order that birth record from the State of KY and perhaps it will yield additional information plus the name of the father. Knox is fairly close to Harlan, being next door to Bell Co. which is next to Harlan Co. WARREN is a big surname in Knox Co.; therefore, there most probably was or still is a small community by that name. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3AB.2ACI/6877.1 Message Board Post: Hello, Regarding your look up posting for "a" George A. SMITH in the 1880 in Harlan, Perry or Clay Co.'s, I would venture to say there are literally dozens of them in those three counties alone. There is a FREE 1880 Federal census available to all through the Church of Later Day Saints/LDS and Ancestry.com. Just go to their sites and you will be able to search for yourself. Another route would be for you to return to your original posting here and respond to that posting by adding in some addition information. That information would be giving us the approx. age of your George SMITH, the name of his wife, the names of any children you know who would be around in 1880 or his parents' if he was not out of the house. DO NOT assume that because George A. SMITH had a middle initial that he used it. As your query is written, we would not be able to even know if we had the correct George SMITH. Good luck to you. 3. I was watching more news about the refugees going back into their "homes" in the devastated area and their terrible loss. One of the heart wrenching comments was from a woman that spoke of her loss of her photos of her babies, her children. Years ago, my children were playing in the garage and threw some lit matches around. In storage I had photos that got singed. Then and there I decided to take the negatives of my photos and put them somewhere safe. That place was the safety deposit box at my bank. I encourage you to take your discs, negatives and anything of value and small. We never know when those items might be lost forever. Photos have always been an important memory keeper and hearing that woman weep over her loss prompted me to share with you possibly a way to keep that happening to you. Happy Trails To You! Linda

Did the older Collins kids raise Mahlon after they broke up? ---- Sylvania,George,Howard or did one of Mins brothers or Sisters raise him. Where Did Min go?---She would have been in her thirties I was told that Min lived with Howard and Jane Farly Collins For a while and I know I have also been told we were related to some Farleys. My brother married a Farley and My Gr uncle use to tease him about the possibility of her being a Cousin.................Maybe that is my lead. Might be something in the Perry or Lee, Va Census too. 3. This may be of interest to those following this strand: FROM THE REV JOHN J DICKEY DIARIES: p.2230-2236 Wood Lyttle- Manchester, Ky., April 12, 1898 "I was born in Lee Co., Va., Nov. 15, 1829. My father was James Lyttle. He was a son of David Lyttle of Russell Co., Va. My father removed to Harlan Co., Ky. in 1846 and settled just above Mt. Pleasant where he lived two years then removed 8 miles further up the Clover Fork near the old homestead of Wm. Turner, one of the first settlers of Harlan County. At that time he was a 100 years old and his wife was the same age. They were both paralyzed and both died the same week when they were about 104 years old. They raised a large family perhaps 12 in number. One daughter married John B. Clay who was murdered for his money in 1856. I saw him borrow the money $95. He was killed by unknown parties supposed to be Joe Noland, Hezekiah Clem. They were prosecuted. D.Y. Lyttle attended them. John Dishman and others prosecuted. They were acquitted. Clem was hung in 1858 for killing Ben Irvine in Mt. Pleasant. Lyttle and Dishman prosecuted. The trial excited great interest. Clem's mot! her was Tupsey? Hall, a sister of James, Hezekiah, Francis Hall and others. The Halls were and early family and fighters and thieves. Tupsey Hall was a noted woman. I saw her shoot a big buck in the ford at Mt. Pleasant. When the hunter came up she refused to them them any part of it.Old Sammy Howard killed John Hensley. David Y. Lyttle defended Howard and cleared him. I rode behind Sammy Howard in Lee Co., Va. He did not mean to kill Hensley. He struck him with a little stick to keep him from cutting him. Howard was a good, very old man.
