They are taken from microfilm so the quality is not that great but I hope u can get a peek into our past at our ancestors who setted in Harlan, County. Take a look at the big rabbit Carlo Brittian is holding and there is E.S. Osborne with his father and his sons. Three generations together over a hundred years ago.More to come, because this film to my knowledge is no longer available to purchase. I treasure the memories, that others made possable for us to look back into our history and for a brief moment we can as if by magic be taken back to a era so long ago but as close as a heart beat. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3AB.2ACI/6884.1.1 Message Board Post: Elva, It is a pleasure to hear from you. I am thrilled to know you knew Onie Gibson and his family. I only recall seeing Onie a couple times in the 1950's. I remember my dad saying Ruby was good at baking and decorating cakes. Onie was the first cousin of my maternal grandmother. In fact, I think they were double cousins. I believe Onie's parents were James Madison "Matt" and Mary Frances "Fannie" Dozier Gibson. I have dates for Matt and his place of burial, but nothing for Fannie. I believe she passed away as a young woman. My great-grandparents were William "Bill" and Ida Belle Gibson Dozier. I would like to locate William Dozier's death record and get the certificate. He passed away in Harlan Co. on Oct. 8, 1955. I am fascinated by your site and will be returning to it I'm sure. My dad worked for the Black Star Coal Co. at Alva, KY. My parents lived at Alva when I was born in June of 1946. They had bought a little farm near Cobin and we moved there that fall. However, Dad continued to work in the mine until 1960. He remained a strong union man until his death. My son and I visited the Lincoln Tomb at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfied, IL back in July. John L. Lewis is also buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery. I wish I had visited his grave in honor of Dad. While I have lived in IN for 45 years now, the hills and mountains of KY still have a special place in my heart. Thank you so much for the info on Onie Gibson and his family. I do remember hearing that Onie and Ruby moved to IN back in the 1960's. However, I have no idea where in IN. I live about an hour from Indianapolis. It wasn't anywhere near here. I believe Onie passed away sometime in the 60's from complications of diabetes. Any other info will be be appreciated. If any of Onie and Ruby's family can be located, I would like to get in contact with them. Larry W. Branstutter

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3AB.2ACI/6881.1 Message Board Post: Hello, Sorry I am not related to your William Roland ADKINS that I know of. I did want to mention, however, that Harlan Co., kY was not actually formed until around 1819. I am making an assumption that sense your relative died in 1833, he was mostly likely born after 1800 or possibly quite a bit before. In any case, Harlan Co. would not have existed as such. He may well have been born in an area that later became Harlan Co. though and he may well have been born in the town of Harlan, located now in Harlan Co.. I do not know precisely when the town of Harlan was actually established. Harlan was formed out of Knox Co. that was not formed until 1799. Bell Co. was not formed until 1868. As of the 1810 Knox Co., there was a Joshua ADKINS age bet. 16-26 with a wife and child and one older female over 45 years. There was also a Thomas ADKINS listed age over 45 with a wife of over 45 and a family of 7 males bet. 0 - 26 yrs. and two females 0-16 . There was no William listed unless he happened to be one of three males in Thomas' household who were bet. 16-26. I saw no marriage for him in the early Knox Co. marriages up to 1850. Surnames: Gibson, Bishop Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3AB.2ACI/6884.1 Message Board Post: Larry: I loved Onie Gibson, he was such a character, he and his wife Ruby "Bishop" Gibson lived on Highway 38, just a few yards from the Brookside Commisary and post office. He was a coal miner at Harlan Collieries Coal Company, located in Brookside. He was alway smiling and was a friend to all. I don't recall them moving but that is possable, a lot of union men left in the sixties because they refused to scab for the coal operators. I knew Gloria Jean very well his daughter. Onie's children went to Ages grammer school and Evarts High School. I only knew the last two children, Onie and Gloria Jean. On Saturday, all the miners dressed up and hung around the Commissary, to chat and find out the latest gossip. I believe at one time Onie worked at the Commissary, on the Harlan Research site, is a section covering Brookside, and with photos and other information. http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyharlan/brooksideagesky.html Children of Onie and Ruby "Bishop" Gibson These are listed in the Ky Births for Ruby Bishop. It is believed they moved from Harlan to somewhere in IN. Onie and Ruby would now be deceased. Matt and Fannie Gibson were my gg uncle and aunt. I would like to know if they had other children. Matt passed away July 16, 1946, and is interred in Brafford Cemetery near Gray, KY. I need birth and death dates for Mary Frances "Fannie" Dozier Gibson, also her place of burial. I know she was the daughter of John Thomas and Martha Jane Hutton Dozier. I am related to both the Gibson and Dozier families.
