    1. Ambrose Jones
    2. I was at the Family History Library tonight looking for Baker's in the Harlan County tax lists. Of course I had to stop at the "J's", just to check out the Joneses. There has been a lot of discussion about who the father of Stephen Jones may be. Many people feel it is Ambrose Jones, living in Granville County, North Carolina. While I have also been searching, I have not been able to find proof to this claim. Tonight I found an Ambrose Jones listed in the 1828 Harlan County Tax List. It is the only year I found him. Ambrose Jones Sr. had a son named Ambrose who moved to Kentucky. Could this be Stephen's brother? Just some more food for thought. Neil Jones

A descendent of Henry Shackleford says the burial place is unknown since no marker exists. Does anyone have any information where the old homesite was of Henry Shackleford? Our SAR chapter , General Joseph Martin can order a marker if the family wishes and place it somewhere along Catherine's creek once an ideal location is found since the exact burial place is unknown. Our main goal is to honor this patriot for his service to his country

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3AB.2ACI/6912 Message Board Post: I am looking for volunteers to help on a transcription project for Harlan County Genealogy. I would like to transcribe the 1888 and 1891 Harlan KY tax rolls as a substitute of sorts for the missing 1890 census. I picked these two years as they are the closest years to the year 1890 for which a complete tax roll is available. I decided to do two tax years as the tax rolls can be a little bit hit and miss if you just rely on one year. The information that we will be extracting is the head of household, the nearest neighbor, the number of males over 21 and the number of children ages 6 to 20. When complete, we will provide the file to the Harlan County Genealogy Website for free public access. The requirements to help are as follows: Some familiarity with Harlan County names. Microsoft Excel or MS Works spreadsheet. A graphics image viewer to view the graphic files. Some of the pages are fairly faint, so patience is important as well. If you would like to help, please email me directly at ecbingham@frii.com

    3. Hi Darlene and others: I too would like to know more about Franklin Dean/Deen and Sarah Ann Thompson; they are my great-grandparents. I am descended from their son John G. Dean. Other children were Alec (Alexander) and Sarah. What I have found is that this family, like all my families, reuse the same given names over and over. Family issues have kept me from doing much genie work this year, but I could not resist coming in on this query.
