This date, if correct, would explain why he is not listed in the 1880 census. I have no documentation for the date, but received it from another Edds researcher. I have a birth date for James Blevins of 4 March 1837 from the same source.

Taken in her older years with her brother Samuel and his wife and I can send it to you. Unless there was two Lavina Hensleys, but on the Hensley website, they have her listed on there too. But her and I also have a picture of my mother's grandmother Juda, daughter of Lavina Hensley and Acles Wynn, and in the picture I have of Lavina and Juda, you can tell that they are mother and daughter.
So in looking at these dates looks like no court House from 1863 until 1870 or at least not much of a one...probably housed as a temp one until new one built in 1870 Harlan Co, Court House built 1st: 1820; 2nd, 1838; 3rd, 1870; 4th, 1888; 5th, 1922. Disasters: 1863 Imagine this is Civil War or there abt.. as have heard it was rough in Harlan Co during Civel War

This info comes from an interview with Lavina's grandaughter Isabelle Gibbons when she was 95 years old in 2000. Isabelle is a dau of Nancy Jane Wynn (dau of Acles & Lavina) who married Campbell Gibbons. Isabelle said in the interview that Lavina died when her mother Nancy was 11 years old. Since Nancy was born May 8, 1876 this would put the death of Nancy's mother Lavina in the year of 1887. Beyond this interview with Isabelle I cannot state anything else about the death year of Lavina. If any of you have one shread of evidence that Lavina lived after the year 1887 I would love to have it. Randy Oplinger

It had to have been that he was born after they took the census. I know that Margaret was married to Ison Eads and had the other children. I figured that James had been married before, but to who? I think I came across the fact that he was somewhat older than her. So I figured that he had been married before, but I also think I found a census record stating that this was her marriage 2 and his 1, but I didn't think that could have been right. If her other kids were not listed as Eads in the census record it is only because she didn't report it on the census. I don't see Elbert being born in 1884 though, but back then they never kept a record of births so it is hard to say. I have a picture of James Harrison Eads that I will be emailing to you.

(The first 3 children should have been listed as Eads/ Edds as they were the children of Margaret's first husband--Isom Eads.) So maybe Elbert was born after the census was taken later in the year of 1880. Although in the 1900 census he was listed as being born in May 1884. There is a marriage record in Harlan county for James Blevins age 39 (Married 3 times) and Sarah M. Eades age 28 married 2 times. This marriage was in Oct 1875. ( Book 1-page 90)---Janette Nolan

See Jim was from Harlan, moved to Virginia, married Margaret there and then they moved back to Harlan, this is the information that I have obtained and all that I can find, but yes, as far as I can find so far, Jim's name was actually James.

It says he was the son of Jim Blevins and Margaret Fowler, exact spellings. He died of coronary occudision (heart attack?) buried in the Burkhart Cemetary in Evarts, Harlan County, Kentucky. How are you related? I am his great granddaughter, granddaughter of his son Simon Peter Blevins. My mother can remember Elbert, barely, she attended his funeral, but was only five when he died. I can't find anything on his father though, I haven't found a death date that is exact yet so that I can obtain his death certificate.

After all, most of it was from the memory of a 101 year old man. Having worked with many of the Ledfords in Garrard Co., I know there is a lot of information that Aley Ledfords descendants do not know that they would like to know. Unless I see actual proof, I do not take anything as being a fact.

Ledfords, Farmers, Skidmore's and Harlan Co. in general to read this book "Generations" by John Egerton. This book seems to have all the genalogical information that is available on the Ledfords. According to this information contained in this book, Aley was born April 1789, probably Randolph Co. NC. His grandfather is listed as John Ledford Sr. Aley's grandparents are referred to and Grandpa John and Grandma Lucy. Aley and his wife Betsy Farmer died in Harlan Co. the name Aley is used in the family several times since the original Aley. I have read the book "Generations" three times and learn something else every time I read it.

Married to Elbert Blevins in 1899, Elbert was born March 1880 and died September 17, 1953 at the age of 73 in Harlan County Kentucky. Elbert was the son of Jim Blevins and Sarah Margaret Fowler. I have their death certificates, but on Juda's death certificate, her son Hyman Blevins was the one who reported her death, and it says her mother's name was Vine Cloud, so I have come to the conclusion that Lavina, or vine remarried to a Cloud, and they have her married name listed on Juda's death certificate. because I cannot find anything to support the fact that Juda's mother's maiden name was Cloud, but I have found the Hensley family and information that she was origianally a Hensley, so sometime after 1930, I think she remarried to a Cloud after the death of Acles Wynn.
