I am searching for information on the Sanders family in Harlan or Bell Co., Kentucky. I found in the 1930 Census George Sanders and his wife Lura (Laura) (Maples) with Lucretia (Lillie), Juanita, Gustava, Paul (Wendle?) with mother in law Salley Widner born about 1875 Arkansas. They also had a son Jack (Jackie) B. born 1935 In the 1920 Census the family (George, Laura & Lillie) is in Bell Co., Precinct 11, Bennetts Fork Kentucky. I think Laura died in 1973 in Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio but I do not have a death date for George nor his parents or siblings. I would appreciate any information on this group of people. Thank you in advance. Carleene Roe

Bowling. A copy of this marriage record might give the name of Lester's parents. Also Isom Bowling--s/o Lester and Mary who was born 21 Feb 1931 died 12 July 1992 in Wlliamsburg,(Whitley) Co KY. You might check some records in Whitley co and come up with some family members there.---Janette Nolan

He had a son, Lloyd Bowling, who served in the Korean War. He was born sometime in the 1930's. Lloyd's mother was Tavia (maybe Octavia) Fielding. I've already looked for the marriages with no results. I hoped that someone would read the post and personally know one of Lester Bowling and Mary Duncan Bowling's children or grandchildren. I appreciate your advice and the information. Thank you. Lillian

He is the son of Leonard and Johannah. According to my cousin and aunt, William B. Scott is buried somewhere in Harlan County. They don't know when he died either. It had to be after the birth of their last child and before the 1900 census. I guess I may never know.

Married to Matilda Helton? The last census I have him on is the 1880 Census Harlan Co. Kentucky, District 6. By 1900 Census he was deceased and Matilda was living in Knox Co. Ky., Blacks Precinct. I don't know his death date, or where he was buried. Could it be a possibility he was buried in Knox Co.? Who Knows! On the 1910 census Matilda is remarried to Dan Smith, but by the 1920 census she's listed as a widow again, and going back to the name of Scott. She is also on the 1930 census in Knox Co. Or I know there was a William who was the son of Jesse Scott and Mary Edwards. Which one are you talking about?

My best advice to you would be for you to begin to collect marriages of a Frank BOWLING in Harlan, Clay, Laurel or wherever, perhaps in or near Cleveland, OH. The marriage records, if they contain his parents' names, would confirm this for you. It would not be an easy task but possibly could produce the evidence you are looking for in half-siblings. If the statement he made on his WWII enlistment were correct, he stated that he had NO dependents. Who knows if that is true or not. This task simply means you must begin to gather evidence. Sorry I cannot be of help to you in that task. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA

BOWLIN, Wm. to REYNOLDS, Lucy on 24 Nov 1904, File 32 From some other's on line research, they are showing this Frank L. went by Lester Frank BOWLING who was born 23 Sept 1904 and died 6 Apr 1989 at Jennings Co., North Vernon, IN; SSN issued in IN before 1951 and was: SSN 311-12-6154. On the SSN Death Index, he is listed as Lester F. BOWLING. I also found his US. WWII Army enlistment record showing a birth year for Lester F. BOWLING b. 1905 in the State of OH, Cuyahoga County, enlistment date: 14 Aug 1942; enlistment city: Cleveland, Private; Civil occupation: Automobile serviceman. On his enlistment date his marital status was: "separated, without dependents", height 64", wieght: 157 pounds. Apparently in 1942 he married Eula Jane ROOT, dau. of George Washington ROOT and Mary M. BENTLEY ROOT b. 1916 in Laurel Co., KY. His parents again are listed as Willie BOWLING and Lucy REYNOLDS. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3AB.2ACI/6940.1 Message Board Post: Hello, There are some unanswered parts to your query that make it very difficult to provide any type of a definitive answer , Up front, I will tell you that I am NOT related so far as I know. For example, is it that you do not know who your mother was? Or, was she a Mary that you have listed or someone else or was there another marriage to someone else who was your mother? You mention all these other children but you don't say if these are familiar sibling names to you or why you cannot confirm these names.. Just based upon the KBI, I would say that this couple is NOT your parent/s. This is because I found a birth record in Harlan Co. in the same year you state you were born in Indianapolis, IN. Here is what I found with all of these children born to "a" Mary DUNCAN in Harlan Co., KY: BOWLING, Lula b. 1-2-1934 - not recorded until 9-11-1979 BOWLING, Isom b. 2-21-1931 - not recorded until 9-11-1979 BOWLING, Ray b. 8-18-1936 BOWLING, Esther b. 5-19-1935 BOWLING, Ruth b. 2-20-1945!!!!! in Harlan to Mary DUNCAN I have no explanation for the fact there were no other children listed bet. 1936 - 1945. If this is the same Mary DUNCAN then she had children over a long 27 year span which did happen back then. In the marriage records for Clay Co., there is this record: BOWLING, Frank, 21 yrs, b. Clay Co., KY mar. MAYHEW, Viola, age 21, b. Clay Co., KY on 7-8-1930, File #49 Other information on this particular marriage states that both parties were single when they married and that his parents were: Pearl BOWLING and Dortha ROBERTS and hers were: MAYHEW, John with no mother listed. There is no way for me to know if there is any connection to your Clay Co. Frank and this marriage. To further confuse things, as of the 1920 Fed. Census in just ONE of the transcribed Fed. census books, there were 4 Frank BOWLINGS listed who range from an 11 month old Frank, a 17 year old Frank, an 18 year old Frank and a 37 year old Frank BOWLING in Clay Co. There could well be others but the other volume transcribed is not an every name Index. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA

Hi, thought I'd put my 2 cents in. My gg grandfather was John N. Nolan. He was married to Charlotte Lewis and was supposedly a doctor. My mother say he was a "real" doctor. His son Samuel was married to Sallie King, daughter of Wm. "Lee" King. Most records confuse this with a Samuel King who was married to Ellafair Ratliff. My family tradition says that Ellafair was married to another King. My grandmother (Carlotta "Lottie" Josephine Hall, Sam and Sallie's daughter) told me this more than once. My grandmother married Andrew Milburn Hall, son of Chad and Susan Nolan Hall. My mother is Mae Hall. Anyway, I'm happy to share what I have, and Happy Holidays to all. Linda Blando San Francisco, CA
