I was afraid that this was the way it was going to be when the message was posted regarding the marriage license and the spelling. That message made me think about seeing a Tester Davidson in one of the census. So, he is not my father after all, and the children are not my siblings. Thank you again. I knew that there would be someone with personal knowledge of the family. I appreciate you taking the time to pass this information on to me. Lillian

I do think that she might have been listed under another name. I had thought that maybe she might have been the daugher of Daniel Day as she and her husband William Carter named a son Daniel but then they also named a son Howard and John. I appreciate your help. sue

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3AB.2ACI/6943.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Suggestion: If you note in the 1900 census, Hiram Day is listed as Hiram H Day. In the 1880 Harlan KY census, there is a Henry Day and a Henderson Day, both about the same age as Hiram Day. Parents of Henry are John & Catherine Day. Parents of Henderson Day are Baity & Sarah Day. In the 1900 census, Hiram Day is located in Lower Martins Fork. In the 1891 Harlan KY property tax listing, both John Day and Beaty Day also live in Martins Fork area. Additional Day's living in Martins Fork in the 1891 tax year are Wix, Newton, Daniel & Daniel jr. Day. Just some names for you to look at the families. Perhaps Sarah had a middle name that she might have been listed under in the 1900 census.

I did follow up on the name Hiram Day and while his age rules him out as a father I thought he might be a brother. In 1930 Lee co. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3AB.2ACI/6943.1 Message Board Post: Sarah Day married W M Carter 25 Jan 1901. Marriage performed by Rev. J. S. Burgin at the Harlan County Line. Witnesses were Hiram Day, Patton Garett, & Baxter Woodard. It was very common for one of the parents to be a witness to the marriage. Looking at the 1900 Harlan KY census for a Hiram Day, turned up only one hit and he was born in about 1871. Not likely that he was a parent of Sarah. I did not find a single Sarah nor Sallie Day in the 1900 Harlan KY census. Hiram Day is still a name worth prusuing to see if there is a relationship to your Sarah.

I'm pretty sure it should be Tester. My uncle was married to a Ruby Bowling who was the daughter of Tester & Mary Bowling. I know that Tess & Mary had a sons named Hubert & Ray. I don't know if Tess was married any other times, but do know that he and Mary lived at London, KY, near my uncle, while I was growing up in the 70's & 80's Tess & Mary both died in the late 1990s. My uncle and his wife Ruby have also passed away. I did find this in the The Sentinel Echo, the London, KY paper www.sentinel-echo.com and the age seems to fit the Hubert that you found in the 1930 census Obituaries Hubert Bowling Hubert Bowling, 77, of London, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at his residence. He was a son of the late Tester and Mary Duncan Bowling. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Bennett Bowling. Funeral services were Friday, March 25, at London Funeral Home, with the Revs. Larry Paul Roark and Hubert Roark officiating. Burial was in McDaniel Cemetery in London, Kentucky. I don't know anything else about this family or their lines, but I hope this might help you. If you have any questions that I might could help you with on this please feel free to e-mail me at kentuckykaren@prodigy.net

Surnames: Prewitt, Jerry Dewey Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3AB.2ACI/6937.1 Message Board Post: Jerry Dewey Prewitt was born in 1894, he worked for the Texas Rangers and was a Sheriff in or about 1914 in Harlan County, Kentucky. He always packed a gun and did kill many , three of which I will tell you about if you wanna call me at home , Sis. He was not one to bargain, he was very hard and did not compromise very well either. That is what I have been told. He went to prison for 20 some odd months for killing a deputy in or around crestwood , kentucky , when the man let his mules die from starvation, He talked to the man and asked him if he knew what had happened to his mules and the man told Grandpa that it was not his business to feed or water his mules even though they were in the same place as the man's mules were kept. Grandpa stood up said his name and shot him right between the eyes dead. That is just indicative of his nature, he was fast and sure with a gun and did not reason well when someone did something wrong he applied his own type of justice.
