A lot of people seem to think that when the Harlan County court house burnt, the records also burnt. This is not so, the records were not being kept in the court house at the time. All marriage records, deeds, tax, wills, some court records and much much more can still be found right in the Harlan County Clerks office. We have been lucky and our records have been very well preserved and taken care of. Also the Harlan Public Library, has a whole special build room, full of nothing but genealogy records of Harlan County, Bell Co., Clay Co. Laurel, Lee Co. Vir. etc etc. It is a great place for Kentucky, Tenn, and Vir. research.

I think that Esther and Ezekiel were not married. Now, could that be because he was married to someone else or another reason...I have no idea, but it would explain the kids being Brock's (except Sarah...who maybe was named Brock since her siblings were also Brock's; or she may have actually been named 'Patrick' and went by 'Brock').
