Hello: I am working on the Day's of Harlan County, KY and according to the 1850 Harlan County, KY census Daniel Garrett and Salina "Day?" list three children. John Garrett 4 b. VA (1844) William Garrett 3 b. KY (1845) Nancy Garrett 7/12 b. KY (1846) If we go by the popular English naming patterns it would suggest that Daniel Garretts father was John Garrett. Salina's father was William Day? And her mother Nancy Day? If anyone has a theory here please let me know. However, I am having some trouble with this theory because in 1840 Nancy Day has 3 males u/5, 1 male 10-14, 1 female u/5, and 1 female 10-14. Some children would be missing, added or this is just "wrong". 1830 Harlan County Census lists William Day 2 males 0-4 1 male 5 -9 1 male 15 -19 1 male 40 -49 1 female 0-4 1 female 5 -9 1 female 30 -39 (Nancy Day?) The Roxie Miracle that is being discussed here is the 1st one, The daughter of; John and Nancy Belle(Hoskins) Miracle. Yes, all of John and Nancy's children were born in Bell County Ky. 2 of them Hobert, and George, married my mother's sisters. Joyce, You are correct. She was born in Bell County, KY. I think I must have got the Harlan County information from the obit. I have six Roxie Miracles in my file, but the one who is the daughter of Nancy Belle Hoskins is the one who married a Saylor and a Collett according to her obit. RESPONSE: Hello, You have a lot more information on the MIRACLES than I do; however, the KBI very clearly says that the June 11, 1926 birth of Roxie MIRACLE to the female, Nancy HOSkINS was in Bell Co., KY and not in Harlan Co., KY. Vol. 064, Cert 31626 That just might be a small error in the overall recorded history you have. As of the 1930 Fed. Census, there are only TWO Roxie MIRACLES showing up in the census that I see. As you have said, the one is: Dwelling238-247 in Bell Co., KY as follows: MIRACLE, John, 37, head, mar. at 15, b. KY - odd jobs . .Nancy, wife, 37, mar. at 14, b. KY . .Hobert, 17, son, b. KY . .Edna, 12, dau, b. KY . .Myrtle, 10, dau, b. KY . .Barnett, 8, son, b. KY . .George, 6, son, b. KY . .Roxie, 3 yrs 10 months, dau, b. KY * * * The other Roxie is with parents who are a James and Tobie MIRACLE and they are in Harlan Co., KY. The other Roxie is listed as born in the same year as the Bell co. Roxie. I also found a death cert for a Roxie HOSKINS MIRACLE who was born on 6-4-1896 in Bell Co. who died on 7-11-1953 in Bell Co. Her parents were listed on the death cert as: M. C. MIRACLE and Sally Ann WILSON. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA p.s. confusing bunch, aren't they. Heck, aren't they all.
