Hello Mary, I also live in Harlan county, and yes your father is correct. I had forgotten about the Bianchi's place once being called the Cumberland Funeral Home. I do not know much about the city of Cumberland as I am from the Wallins Creek area, but lived for 17 years in the city of Harlan. I am now back living in the Coldiron area. It is owned and operated by Lewis and Phillip Bianchi. Phone number 606-573-3030. According to my phone book, which is about 10 years old, the hardware store is no longer there. To add to the mix, there is a Cumberland Valley Funeral Home, located at Cumberland, KY, a city about 15-20 miles (I forget) from Harlan but still in the county. Good luck with your hunting. As late as the 50s there was a funeral Home named Cumberland Funeral Home and it was located in Harlan. ************** Ideas to please picky eaters. Watch video on AOL Living. (http://living.aol.com/video/how-to-please-your-picky-eater/rachel-campos-duffy/2050827?NCID=aolcmp00300000002598)

However, I downloaded it and viewed it. I have no answer for you other than it is possibly an error or she was Debbie Minerva. I have no explanation. On the census records I have for the 1860 and the 1870 Harlan Co. she is a Debyor Debbie MADDEN mar. to Thomas FARLEY/FARLER. This couple, however, did have a dau., Manervy b. 1882 in Harlan Co. and she married Adron NOLAN, s/o Joseph and Louisa FARMER NOLAN which is probably why Janette NOLAN had that death cert in her possession. Hopefully Janette will see your query and have a better explanation than I do. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I know that is her married name, but the only Stella in the Harlan birth records that had Saylor children besides Stella Brock is Stella Saylor. She only had one child Joyce F. Saylor born 23 Dec 1933. She is probably still living if we could find her. I'm working on an Estep line. My Wife's great grandfather was James Tinsley Estepp and his death certificate states his father was William Estepp, mother Nancy Miller, he was born in Clay Co on March 11, 1865. His WWI draft registration card states his birth date as March 11, 1873. Go figure. I couldn't find a reference to a James Estep in the Clay co census(or any of the spellings for Estepp) for 1870 or 1880. So, I looked to neighboring counties. I found Moses' household (Dist 47, Pg18, Harlan Co 1880)which lists William of marrying age(21) and James of close enough age to be viable(5). I've been trying to find Nancy Miller with no luck whatever. So...based on Mr/Ms Taylor's note, are the kids in Moses' house hold Alexander's or William's?...or dare I say NEITHER? I have Grover married first to Catherine Saylor then to Stella Mae Brock. I found his brother Berry Saylor's death certificate and it has his wfe as Stella Saylor. I found a Stella Saylor who had one child listed in the birth records. Joyce F. Saylor born 23 Dec 1933. Berry was shot and killed 16 May 1936 in Harlan, Harlan County, KY. He was some kind of merchant. That may have been their only child. Do you remember if Lewis and Lillian had children? I have been trying to find out as much as possible for Ron Robles. His mother is Juanita Saylor. You probably know her. Yes, both Berry and Grover's wife's first names were Stella. Berry's wife's name is listed on his death certificate. I do not know what her maiden name was as of yet. They did not marry in Harlan County.; On Berry's death certificate, his wifes names is listed as Stella Saylor. It is not uncommon for a Lumber Company or a Hardware Company to be listed as an undertaker. Many families purchased supplies from companies to make the caskets for their own family members. There may have not been a funeral home in existence at that time or one that was nearby..
