Teddy, Considering the near map I drew for you, it is hard to understand why you still have no clue as to the location of St John Cemetery. The church is clearly denoted on every map of Hardin Co, KY I have here at home. And it clearly shows the little town of St John right next to the church. Even says cemetery. It covers a bit of ground and really is not that hard to find. There must be some 500 plus tombstones and I have photographs of at least 100 of them. The cemetery surrounds an active parish chuch along with a rectory and an elementary school. Somewhere around here I have a church bulletin and am sure it says St John, KY but more important than the name of the town it is located I would think would be the location. Can't go wrong with Hardin Co, KY. >Here's the scoop. My g-g-grandfather was Charles William FRENCH, b 3/22/1833 >in Hardin County, KY, married Lucinda WISE. My Aunt supplied me with much >information in this tree, mostly the direct line. She is reluctant to share >sources and alot of other interesting stuff. She feels she has put so much >time, energy and money into her research, she doesn't want to give it away. What a charitable attitude! I guess she thinks research is just handed to the rest of us who share with others. The reason I put 8 generstions of Alvey reseach on my web page was to help others and to share with others a lot of the information that had been shared with me. I stopped at 8 only to avoid any controversy about posting info on living persons which I did not. I do think that is a very old attitude and probably brought on by the difficulites when you just used a pencil and had to rewrite everything every time you shared information with anyone. I don't remember the "good ole days" before copy machines even at my advanced age. I doubt they will let her past the Golden Gates with her prized binders of secret French information. I lap both generations, have done lots of genealogy your Aunts way but am modern enough to understand the enormous benefits and the pitfalls of todays electronic age. I get an average of 1o queries a wek from those you browse the Interent and run across my web page, that would never happen in the letter writing days. Are you certain that your GG grandfather was Charles William French who married Lucinda C Wise??. The St John marriage records list him as Charles H and the baptismal records for many of his children read Charles Henry French and Lucinda C Wise. > By the way, Bob (one of you who responded), I believe I got the burial >information from either you or Melissa A. I still am confused as to the >whereabouts of St. Johns. All on this list should know I responded to your query since I did not respond to you directly but to the list so others could be helped as well, a notion lost on your Aunt. You did not get the death information from me for I have no clue as to when Charles Henry French or Lucinda C Wise died or where they are buried. I can give you very reliable sources for his birth and the baptismal records for most of his children. Their marriage is recorded in Hardin Co marriage records and St John marrige records but not having done much research on the French surname, I have never tried to find the death dates of Charles and Lucinda. There are a couple of books that have some information on the the family of Leo French and Mary Ann Bryan as well but I did not see much of Charles and Lucinda in those either. I only have church death records up to 1869 but if the church registers are in existence today I am sure the pastor could find a death record for you and it would include the burial location especially if your Aunt is right and they are buried in st John. It is very possible that Charles Henry is buried in St John's and either has no tombstone or the tombstone is unreadable which many are not in St John's due to a very low grade of stone used for a large percentage of the tombstones. Those buried in St James in E-town seem to have come for a more afflent background and the tombstones have held up to the weather there. But Charles and Lucinda are not listed in any St John Cemetery that I have seen but if your Aunt says so, she must know. The Corbett book also says that Leo French and his wife are buried there and they are no listed either. Bob Alvey
