    3. Hi Dottie, You wrote: RE: [KYHARDIN] HARRIS family ca 1800 -- Lisa, I was very interested in your replies. I was trying to access the Harris Colonial VA site and couldn't locate it. Maybe you can help with that. -- I'll have to see what I can do for you on that...as it's been quite awhile since I've accessed it...directly. Most of the time I just listen in...on the digest version of: < HARRIS-COLONIALVA-L@rootsweb.com > Most of the chatter......discusses lines that I don't have any clue as to IF they connect to my Sarah...or not, but I listen and try to figure out if those lines might just be close. The ONLY thing that I know for sure of Sally is who she did marry, Joseph JOHNSON s/o John JOHNSON m. Mary PLEDGE, and... HIS 1781 Will plainly states...he was her one and only hubby. That's it. Not much to go on...except a naming practice, and there are names in used for her children...not seen in the JOHNSON's but then...I haven't dug too deeply yet on the PLEDGE line. Mary was the d/o Nicholas PLEDGE...and she didn't use that as she was naming her own children. So...I'm cornfused. -- My uncle, who is a Harris/Everett, did the cheek swab. Does the one test work for both surnames? Thanks, Dottie ---------- Now that question...I can answer...and straight away. *S* A DNA sample will ONLY work for the father's surname project. So if your uncle's mother...what the EVERETT...then that will have to be done by one of his EVERETT uncles or male cousin. I'm in that boat....many times over...as my mother was the 5th inline daughter descendant for most of her family lines. Trust me...it ain't easy finding male cousins. :o( For those interested......there is an XX project going. It's the mitochondrial and will trace backwards on the female side. BUT.......this will only assist you in tracing what part of the planet your original mother...evolved from. That's it. The female XX DNA...is unchanged from our earliest ancestors. I'm not knocking it...as it has it's place in our research, but if you're looking for surname answers...then it's not it. I've had several coordinators, on other surnames, tell me that THEIR suname daughters MtDNA will help sort their lines or... prove a connection, but so far all that I've read says... that it's important...but no, it doesn't help very much for us. As the Coordinator for both GRIMES and ROSSER...I do encourage those who want to do MtDNA, but...the bigger issue is surnames and sorting out the patriarchal lines. I've way too many ancestresses listed as.... "___?___", with only their first name, husband and all of their children. Centuries have passed...and with each marriage, our mother's have traditionally given up their maiden names. It's a fact. It's why we have so much trouble identifying our ancestress's mother's names...in our family lines. :o( ;o( Hopefully...you've found 'something' to help in my reply, Lisa ______________________________ -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
