In 1850 Joseph was living with his daughter Elizabeth Tibbs and son-in-law Thomas Lynch, in Jennings township, Crawford County, Indiana. Joseph around 1852-1853 had returned to Meade County, Kentucky. He died in 1854 and is beleived to be buried in the Chism family Cemetery in Meade county.
