French, & Youell Hobbs, son of the late Wm. Hobbs, were married at the bride's home near Mt. Zion Church on Wed- nesday. They will reside on the groom's farm near Mt. Zion. Friday, January 31, 1908 Lawrence Shumate & Miss Frankie French were married at Rineyville on Wednesday, at the home of the bride. Bride is the oldest daughter of Mr & Mrs Wm. French. The attendants were Guy French, brother of the bride and Miss Myrtle Shumate, sister of the groom. Groom is the son of Wm. Shumate, a farmer near Rineyville. Friday, February 7, 1908 Mr & Mrs James Reesor of near Stithton, were the host of a birthday dinner given Sunday, Feb. 1 in honor of the latter's parents, Mr & Mrs Henry French. Mr. French was 65 years old on Jan. 31 and Mrs. French was 64 on Feb. 2. Friday, February 14, 1908 Births-- Mrs. Len French of Stithton had a son born a few days ago. Misses Lizzie and Danah Claggett visited their grandfather, John French of Meeting Creek. (East View News) Friday, March 13, 1908 John L. French of Meeting Creek area died yesterday of senility in his 88th year. Survived by 4 children, Mrs. Denny Claggett of East View, Lee French of Hardin Springs, James French of Daviess Co. and C. L. French of New Mexico. Burial today in family burial ground. Friday, March 20, 1908 Mr & Mrs Clint Crume and daughter attended the funeral of his grandfather, John French, who died at his home in Meeting Creek last week. (Mays Grove News) B. W. Claggett and family went to Meeting Creek last Friday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Claggett's father, John L. French, which took place at the family burial ground. Hargan of Graves Co. visited his sister, Mrs. Ben French of Stithton. They had not seen each other for about 40 years. Tuesday, August 11, 1908 St. Claire Catholic Church (picture) in Colesburg will celebrate its 100th birthday tomorrow. It is the oldest Catholic Church in Hardin Co. and one of the oldest in the state. Father Gastoldi has been the priest there since Nov. 28, 1901. He is a native of Italy. As early as 1804, the Rev. Stephen Theodore Badin, said mass in the hum- ble home of James French, one of the early settlers at Colesburg, whose descendants are still present in the Colesburg Church. The little church began by Father Charles Nerinckx in early 1808 was completed in June 1810. She had resided on a farm below Vine Grove for many years but moved to Louisville after the death of her husband a year ago. Survived by a brother, Thomas Yeager and 6 children, Mrs. Rosa French of Owensboro, James Peak of Flaherty, Mrs. Gillen Peak of St. John, Pius Peak and Mrs. Georgie Barker of Stithton and Phillip Peak of Louisville. Their 8 children and 13 grandchildren were all present and Mrs. Angeline Patterson, Mrs. French's mother, head the list of 4 generations. Funeral held Monday at St. Claire Catholic Church and buried in the church cemetery. Mrs. Katherine "Kitty" French died Sunday of infirmities of old age. She resided with her daughter, Mrs. Buck Carlisle and family about 5 miles from Colesburg. Member of Catholic Church. Funeral at St. Claire Church on Monday with burial in church cemetery. Tuesday, December 29, 1908 Mrs. Mary French, wife of George French, died at her home near Vine Grove on Sunday from cancer. Was 58 years old. Survived by husband and a child. Member of Catholic Church. Burial at St. John Catholic Church Cemetery this morning.
