Friday, January 10, 1908 Horace Lampkins of Hammonsville & Miss Maude Thomas of that area were married recently at Munfordville. (Upton News) Friday, January 17, 1908 J. L. Lamkin & Miss Maud Thomas left Upton to Bonnieville and boarded the train going to Munfordville where they were married by the Co. Judge. Groom is a resident of Hammonsville and the bride is the daughter of H. W. Thomas of near Upton. Friday, January 24, 1908 An interesting bit of local history of the life character of "Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch" whose peculiar characteristics have been brought into such wide prominence through Mrs. Alice Hegan Rice's book, is revealed in the County Clerk's office at the place (Hodgenville). "Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch," whose real name is Bass, was born and reared in LaRue County, on South Fork Creek, near the Morrison school house, now occupied by Mrs. Florence Thurman. Her maiden name was Thomas and she was the daughter of George W. Thomas. The marriage records in the County Clerk's office shows that a certificate of marriage was issued to Joel T. Campton, then Circuit Court Clerk of Hart County, to Miss Mary A. Thomas, and that they were married at the residence of the bride on November 27, 1866. She was twice married, the second time to a Mr. Bass, which is her present name. Town Marshal W. O. Thomas is a relative of Mrs. Bass and was present at her first marriage and remembers well the incident, although he was only three years of age. Tuesday, January 28, 1908 Mrs. Letitia Thomas Hayden, widow of Col. J. B. Hayden of Hardin Co., died near Cecilian this morning from senility. Was 92 years old and was bedridden from the infirmities of old age. Was the daughter of Hardin Thomas. Survived by nine children: William and Alfred of Memphis, Tn., John and Andy of Mo., Mrs. Sue English and Miss Mariah of Mo., Charles Hayden of Hardin Co. Friday, February 7, 1908 Misses Ruby Cralle and Emma Stuart of Meeting Creek, Mary Renfro of Vine Grove and Katie Thomas of Upton, entered East Lynn College at Buffalo this week. Friday, April 24, 1908 E. T. Moberly of Long Grove left for Fort Francis to visit his sister, Mrs. J. W. Thomas. Friday, May 22, 1908 Mrs. Will Thomas of Leitchfield visited her sister, Ms. J. C. Payne of West Point. Tuesday, June 23, 1908 Mrs. Wm. H. Thomas died at her home near St. John on Sunday from a complication of diseases. Was about 55 years old. Was the daughter of the late Henry Thomas. Born and raised near Glendale. Married W. H. Thomas a number of years ago. Member of Catholic Church. Survived by husband and 6 children: Leo Thomas, Mrs. James Brown, Misses Minnie and Lillie Thomas who lived at home, Mrs. Nall of Cecilian and Mrs. Casteel of Stithton. Burial in the St. John Cemetery yesterday. Friday, July 10, 1908 W. O. Thomas and S. D. Thomas of Hodgenville visited the bedside of their brother-in-law, R. E. Stuart of Glendale. Tuesday, July 21, 1908 Robert E. Stuart died at his home in Glendale last Friday of typhoid- pneumonia. Was the son of the late John Stuart and was born on Clear Run area of Hardin Co. on Dec. 8, 1865. Obtained a common school education. Was a school teacher before he obtained his ma- jority. Moved to Nolin in 1889 and engaged in the mercantile business. In 1890 he moved to Glendale and for 10 years was a member of the A. G. Lewis & Co. in agricultural implements. He was also the head of the firm of R. E. Stuart & Co. he established and maintained up to his death just outside of E'town. Married Miss Annie Thomas of Hod- genville, daughter of Martin Thomas, on June 15, 1887 in his 22nd year. Survived by wife and 3 children, Eugene, Lula May, Robert, Jr. Also survived by 3 brothers, J. A., E. T. and Herbert Stuart and 6 sisters, Mrs. Barbara Connely, Mrs. Fannie Thompson, Elmira, Emma, Annie and May Stuart. Member of Christian Church. Masons were in charge of the service held at the Christian Church in Glendale. Friday, July 24, 1908 D. S. Williams, aged 66, & Miss Bettie Thomas, aged 62, will be married Sunday at the groom's home in Hoskinson Valley in Hardin Co. Groom is a widower but this is the bride's first marriage. Friday, July 31, 1908 Eugene Thomas of Cripple Creek was called to Glendale by the death of his brother-in-law, R. E. Stuart. Friday, August 14, 1908 Zach Thomas died at his home in Fayettsville, Ark. at the age of 57 years. Born and raised near St. John, Hardin Co. Left the county about 20 years ago. Member of Catholic Church. Survived by a bro- ther, W. H. Thomas and a sister, Mrs. Brown Hayden, both of Hardin Co. Also leaves a wife and 2 children. Burial at his home in Ark. Tuesday, August 25, 1908 Mrs. Mattie Frederick of Memphis, Tn. visited her father, W. W. Thomas of Dorretts Run. Friday, September 11, 1908 Mrs. Robert Thomas of Louisville visited her mother, Mrs. Sarah Watkins. (Sonora News) Friday, September 25, 1908 W. H. Hays, grandson of the late. Col. James Hays of E'town and nephew of Horace Hays, President of First Hardin National Bank, is the Democratic nominee for Congress in the 2nd Cali- fornia Dist. He lives in Chico, Ca. and is a well-known lawyer there. His father was the late James W. Hays of New York and his mother was Miss Thomas of Louisville. Mrs. Annie Stuart and son, Eugen Stuart, will visit her brother, Eugene Thomas at Cripple Creek, Co. Friday, October 9, 1908 Miss Lillie Thomas of Cecilian & Charles Holman of Blue Ball area were married in Louisville on Tuesday. Bride is the daughter of W. H. Thomas. Groom is the son of J. W. Holman. They will make their home near Rineyville. Maj. W. H. Thomas, at one time a prominent distiller in Louisville, died Tuesday at an advanced age at St. Joseph Hospital. Friday, October 16, 1908 Mrs. Angeline Patterson visited her daughters, Mrs. Frank Thomas and Mrs. Mansbacher. (Colesburg News) Tuesday, October 20, 1908 Warren Larue Thomas of Pittsburg visited his cousin, Mrs. G. M. Cresap. Tuesday, October 27, 1908 Marriage license was issued in E'town on Friday to John Will Thomas & Miss Virginia Genevie Medley. Friday, October 30, 1908 Virginia Genevive Medley & Will Thomas were married Tuesday at St. John Church. Bride is the daughter of Mr & Mrs J. G. Medley. Groom is the son of Mr & Mrs J. J. Thomas. Miss Ida Peak and Theodore Medley, brother of the bride, were the attendants. They will make their home near Rineyville. Mrs. Harriet Amanda Thomas died at her home in Pottsboro, Tx. at the age of 70 years. Born and raised in Hardin Co. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Cofer and a sister-in-law of the late Mrs. J. W. Smith and an aunt of S. W. Cofer, both of Elizabethtown. Survived by husband and 4 children. Friday, November 20, 1908 Wm. Q. Miller a farmer from Nolin died Tuesday from kidney trouble. Born in Hardin Co. on May 10, 1836. Member of Baptist Church. Married Miss Sarah Cash in 1855 but had no children. Married a se- cond time to Miss Terry M. Thomas in 1894, who survives him with a son, Jesse, aged 6 years and a foster child, Charles R. Gusling of Louisville. He also leaves 3 sisters and a brother, Moorman Miller. Burial in Gilead Church Cemetery on Wednesday.
