    2. "Hardin County, Kentucky Newspaper Abstracts 1909" compiled by Carolyn Wimp. Friday, January 8, 1909 Horace Stith, son of the late Ben A. Stith, died at his home in San Bernardino, Ca., at the age of 25 years. Left Hardin Co. several years ago. Survived by his mother, a sister, Mrs. Wm. Taber and 2 brothers, Arthur Stith of Ca. and Singleton Stith of LaRue Co. He also leaves several half brothers and sisters. Tuesday, January 12, 1909 Mrs. Francis Stith of Stithton died yesterday, Jan. 17th. She would have been 83 years old next March. Married the late Felix Stith. Was the daughter of G. V. and Ann Preston, both members of the older families of Louisville. Of 12 brothers and sisters of the deceased, only 2 are now living, Mrs. Sidney Tirplett of Sedalia, Mo. and Miss Juliet Preston of Stithton. Sur- vived by 2 sons, R. B. and W. W. Stith of Stithton and Mrs. S. T. Harris and Mrs. Sidney Hall of Stithton and Mrs. Minnie Thurman of Portlan (Portland?), Oregon. She was the aunt of E. T. Carrico of Stithton. She died from cancer of the face. Burial Monday in the family cemetery. Friday, January 22, 1909 Walter Stith of Mays Grove received word that is brother, Jack Stith, formerly of Hardin Co., is in an infirmary in Atlanta with typhoid fever. Friday, February 27 (26?), 1909 Miss Shirley Stith visited her cousins, Misses Fannie and Nellie Stiles in Howevalley. (Mays Grove News) Mrs. M. E. Brewer, formerly of Louisville but now of Norman, Ok. announces the engagement of her daughter, Miss Ruth Brewer to Alvin Stith of Louisville. They will marry in April in Norman. Friday, March 12, 1909 Miss Rayda Stith of Louisville visited her aunt, Mrs. Clarence Bradley of Stithton. Friday, March 19, 1909 Miss Ann Howlett has arrived home to Stithton from White Springs, Fla. where she visited her sister and brother-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Sam Stith. Tuesday, March 30, 1909 D. L. Talbott had a dinner to celebrate his 75th birthday on Thursday. He lives 3 miles north of Elizabethtown. Mrs. Stella Stith and Mrs. D. S. Talbott prepared the meal. Those present: Mr & Mrs Boone Summers, Mr & Mrs Jesse L. Talbott, Mr & Mrs J. B. Larkin. W. C. Watts of DeLand, Fla. visited his brother, G. H. Watts at Georgetown and visited his brother-in-law, Walter Stith of Mays Grove. Misses Hallie Stith and Fannie Stiles visited their aunt, Mrs. Jas. Allen of Nalls Valley. (May Grove News) Tuesday, April 6, 1909 Mrs. Lucinda Stith of Guston was buried at Methodist Cemetery last Wednesday at Big Spring. Was 85 years old. Member of Methodist Church. Survived by Mrs. Margaret Hardaway of near Big Spring, Mrs. Katie Childs, Mrs. Olive Alverson and Mrs. Mary Coleman of Guston. Tuesday, June 1, 1909 Achilles Stith, an old Confederate soldier, will visit his son, Ernest Stith at Hopkinsville. Friday, June 18, 1909 Josh Stith of Cincinnati visited h is niece, Mr. (Mrs.?) Ed Vertrees of Vine Grove. Tuesday, July 6, 1909 Miss Leona V. Artman & Joseph Q. Stith were married by Co. Judge Veirs in his office on Saturday. Both are from Melrose. Bride was only 16 years old. Tuesday, July 13, 1909 Miss Elnora Stith, daughter of Henry Stith, died at her home near Rineyville on Saturday of consumption. Was 26 years old. Member of Baptist Church. Burial in Howell Church Cemetery on Sunday. Friday, July 16, 1909 Mr & Mrs Joe Stith, who were recently married in Elizabethtown, have gone to Streeter, Ill. to reside. Friday, November 5, 1909 Owen Stith, who has been teaching school in Meade Co. the past 2 months, visited his parents, Mr & Mrs Walter Stith of Mays Grove. Tuesday, November 9, 1909 Learner B. Stith, who went from Stithton to Ca. a number of years ago, died in Ca. Member of John Morgan's command during the war and a brother of J. C. and Robert Stith and a half brother to Mrs James Lewis. Was 65 years old. Survived by wife and children. Tuesday, December 14, 1909 Mrs.E. T. Carrico visited her aunt, Mrs. Eva Stith of Rineyville. (Stithton News)
