My ancestor's name appeared on lists for these militia districts: 1787 - Atkinson Hill's Tithables list of Pottinger's and Bear's old company (militia dist) 1788 - Capt. Samuel and Capt Christopher Beale's company Can anyone on the list tell me the location of "Pottinger's and Bear's old company, ie militia district in 1787? In 1788, did it become "Capt Samuel and Capt. Chrostopher Beale's company"? If not the same companies in the same militia district area, where was Beale's militia district? Regarding militia district lists... can anyone tell me the significance of (1) and (2) after the name? It has been a long time since I worked with Kentucky tax or militia lists. Does (2) mean that there were 2 males over the age of 16 in the household who were eligible for militia duty? Many thanks for any help on this.
