HAMPSHIRE COUNTY PUBLIC SERVICE CLAIMS. *"At a meeting of the several Commissioners appointed to settle the accounts of the Militia in actual Service in the late Expedition agains the Indians under Lord Dunmore held at Romney the 14th day of October 1775. The said Commissioners proceeded to receive Claims."* [1] Saturday, 14th October 1775. Claims [at Romney in Hampshire County]....Edward Grimes for provisions;... 2. Honora, p.55 Captain Hugh Stephenson's company... The author has bios of Captains at the end of most pages - "Captain Stephenson was born in 1729 in Wesmoreland County, Virginia, the son of Richard and Honora (Grimes) Stephenson. His mother Honora was previously the widow of William Crawfor, Senior, and he was a half brother of Colonel William Crawford and a full brother of Captain John Stephenson (q.v.) He married Ann Whaley in Berkeley County in 1747. He took a company to Roxbury, Massachusetts at the beginning of the Revolution, and they served sooon after at Dorchester Heights and on Staten Island before returning home. Colonel Stephenson died in the autumn of 1776 at Charles Town, and was replaced by Moses Rawlings of Maryland, his second in command.
