While Little York was the county seat of Meade Co, Court sessions and other legel functions were transacted in the homes of county officials, who lived at Little York." If you found the area of Doe Run in Meade Co. on a map you will have the site of Little York. My Harris' were there also.
From "Early Times in Meade Co, Ky." by Geo. L Ridenour: "The county seat was located at Brandenburg's ferry on the Ohio River about 4 and one half miles west of Little York." Brandenburg is located on the Ohio River. > > Message Board Post: > > Sharon Van Meter gave me this information 13 Jan 2005 on the Hardin Co, KY > Rootsweb; In "Two Centuries of Elizabethtown and Hardin Co" page 217, it > says"At the time Meade Co was established, and county officals appointed, > legel business was transacted at the little community called Little York, > in the Doe Run section of the county. In looking through some of the Van Meter information, I see a reference to the book, "TWO CENTURIES IN ELIZABETHTOWN AND HARDIN COUNTY KENTUCKY 1776-1976 {McCLURE}." Does anyone have a copy of this book available for lookups. I am researching the family of John Carson, who came to Hardin County around 1788 from South Carolina. He died in 1824. I would like to find any information on his family, and would like to know where he is buried. His daughter, Jane, married Isaac Van Meter April 5, 1825 in Hardin County. Carolyn Carson
From the book you mentioned: page 19: "John CARSON was 71 years old when he applied for a Revolutionary War pension in Hardin County September 7, 1818. He enlisted in May, 1775 in South Carolina under Captain Richard and served until the end of 1781. He was in the battle of Sullivan's Island, Hanging Rock, Camden, and possibly others in that part of the country. page 41: "Indian Troubles, Traditions" A force of men from the Hardin County area, under command of Captain Moses KUYKENDALL (Collins History lists him as a soldier in Captain William HARROD's Company at the Station near the Falls (of Ohio) in 1780) took part in the above expedition. They furnished their own rations. In 1800 and 1801 some of the men who were in the expedition against the Wabash Indians applied in Hardin County Court for ay for their services. Some of the men recorded as being in the expedition against the Wabash Indians were: Thompson ASHBY, Thomas AMOS, Charles BUSH, John CARSON, William CHRISTIAN, Adam COOMBES, Nicholas COOMBES, William CONELIUS, Cornelius CUMMINS, John DIAL, Israel DODGE, Sam DOOLEY, Abner FIELD, C. FIELDS, Lewis FIELDS, James FARKES (Frakes?), Isaac GOODWIN, Henry HELM, Abraham HUNTER, William JOHNSON, James JOHNSTON, Robert LASLEY, James SULLIVAN, Hardin THOMAS, Uriah THOMPSON and Thomas WINN" Several more paragraphs on this subject, but no other mention of John CARSON. Have you tried the Hardin County cemetery listings at Rootsweb?
