    3. Tax lists are a wonderful way to track a relative. It lets you know when a person was in a county, if they lived on a watercourse, it will list that, how many acres they owned, their livestock, children, whether they were in the military, all men in that household over 21, and in some tax years, it even lists if they owned a piano. It will also let you know the others with that surname. Sometime, people moved between cenus and they won't show up on a census, but they will on a tax list. They aren't always accurate as to a count of children, but the other info is very interesting. If your county doesn't have a tax list available, you can look in phone book for a Church of the Latter Day Saints (Mormon) and find out if they have that counties tax list on microfilm and reserve it and then when it comes in you can go there and view it!
