In researching the Harris' years ago, I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a book titled "From Here To Yonder" by Clifton Harris. For reasons of my own I have decided to index the book and while doing so I thought it might help someone if I posted excerpts from it. The postings will involve the early pioneers of KY., and in most instances will tell you where you can look for further research. On May 12, 1778, Col. George Rodger Clark, who was commissioned to recruit and train men to retake the Northwest Passage, left Red Stone in eastern Penn. with 150 recruits and 20 settlers and their families. They landed at Corn Island, which is now Louisville, KY., Here are the names of those settlers....... Richard Chenowith, James Patten, John McMannus (Sr. and Jr.), Edward Worthington, William Swan, Neal Daugherty, Samuel Pickens, John Sitzer, John Tuel, William Faith, Johns Meanes, Isaac Kimbly, James Graham, J. Galloway, John Donne, Joseph Hunter, Jacob Reagan, John Sinclair and Robert Travis. Further research can be done in the book "Conquest of the Country Northwest" by William English Hayden, Vol 1, page 145.
