    1. [KYHARDIN] HUMPHRIES, John-Nancy RUDE
    2. helen graves
    3. John HUMPHRIES/Humphreys married Nancy RUDE on Dec. 24, 1799 in Hardin Co., KY. The surety (bondsman) for the marriage was 22 year old Hankerson Rude who had just gotten married himself. Hankerson Rude, b. 1777, owned no real estate and was just starting out in life as a newlywed. Nancy Rude was born c. 1781. Does anyone have proof who Nancy Rude's parents were? Does anyone have proof of the relationship between Nancy Rude b. ca 1781 and Hankerson Rude b. 1777? One source says Nancy was the daughter of Asher and Elizabeth RUDE. Asher Rude was still alive and living in Hardin Co. in 1799. If he was Nancy's father, why wasn't he the bondsman for his daughter's marriage? (There's a possibility he disapproved, but if Nancy was born in 1781, she was only 18 years old and underage. She would need her father's consent to marry, right? Or am I wrong. Was 18 the age you could marry without parental consent?? Based on the theory that Hankerson Rude was Nancy's Rude's brother, one source says Nancy Rude was the daughter of Jesse Rude (Hankerson's father) who had died in 1791. Asher Rude or Jesse Rude? Can anyone document who Nancy Rude's father was? Does anyone have further info on Nancy Rude Humphries? Perhaps if she lived to 1850 and is on the census, we could determine who her father was by where she was born. If Asher Rude was her father, she would say she born in PA. If Jesse Rude was her father, she would say on the census she was born in KY. -- Helen Graves

    1. [KYHARDIN] GILLELAND-RUDE 1810 etc.
    2. helen graves
    3. I just subscribed to the Hardin Co., KY, list last night. The first message I received this morning was about Thomas Gilleland. I am very interested in Thomas Gilleland and his family because his daughter Rebecca (he called her Peggy in his will), married Thompson RUDE in Hardin Co., KY, on March 3, 1810 (about 4 years before Thomas Gilleland died). Thompson Rude was the son of Jesse Rude and Mary Ann Ashby; he was born c. 1785 in prob Hardin Co. as his father received a land warrant in 1785. Jesse Rude died between Jan-April 1791 and his widow (Thompson's mother) married John Deremiah in August 1791.The Deremiahs continued to live in Hardin Co. on one of Deremiah's properties; I think the Deremiah's lived on his land near Shaw Creek, which became located in Grayson County after Grayson was created. In 1814, John Deremiah sold his Shaw Creek land and moved to Washington Co., IN. At some time between 1810 and 1820, Thompson Rude also moved his wife and children to Washington Co., IN. He appears on the 1820 Washington Co., IN, census on the same page as the Deremiahs. Thompson Rude's age bracket was 26-45, his wife 26-45. In 1820 they had 5 sons under 10 years of age and 2 daughters under 10 years of age (7 children since their 1810 marriage). In 1823, John Gilleland of Washington Co., IN, (Rebecca's brother) and Thompson Rude exchanged land. Thompson Rude obtained Gilleland's land in Hardin Co.KY and John Gilleland received Thompson Rude's land he owned in Washington Co., IN. At some time after this exchange (after 1823) Thompson Rude moved his wife and children back to Hardin Co., KY, to live on what had been John Gilleland's land. STUART CEMETERY, Hardin Co., KY: in addition to Rebecca's father Thomas Gilleland, there are two RUDE boys (David and Grayson) buried in Stuart Cemetery (per a book listing burials). No dates were given for these boys, but I think they must be sons of Thompson and Rebecca Rude as they had 5 sons by 1820 and only 3 appear in the family in later censuses as being born prior to 1820. Another Rude child is also buried in Stuart Cemetery. No name/no dates/no sex indicated. About 1835, Thompson and Rebecca (Gilleland) Rude moved to Orange twp, Knox Co., IL, with 9 children: Silas b. 1813; Thomas b. 1814; Margaret b. 1816; Hester Ann b. ca 1817; Mary Ann b. ca 1818; Joseph b. ca 1819; John b. ca 1820; Matilda b. ca 1825; Celia B. b. ca 1827. Thompson Rude died in 1848 in Knox Co., IL. His widow Rebecca (Gilleland) Rude died prior to May 16, 1855 (date will was proven). Her executor was her son in law Thomas Ashley, Celia's husband. She left $100 to her daughter Margaret (Mrs. Alexander) Lander. The rest of her estate (land and personal ppty) was left to her daughter Celia Ashley. I would like to hear from anyone regarding GILLELAND and RUDE of Hardin Co. KY. -- Helen Graves Does anyone know when Thomas Gilleland first settled in Hardin Co.?

    2. Kathy..........E-mail goldbug@aol.com. About 5 years ago I bought a program called Sitefind from them. It has every town and county in every state and has been invaluable over the years. I have never seen a program to name townships but I've been in this a looooong time and once I had the county I was able to find the township. Good Luck..............................Regards, Larry

    1. [KYHARDIN] Akers land
    2. Thanks Millie for the clues to go on. I'm not great at land records. I really have been lucky with other family groups either by living near the area or having cousins living near the areas. I think the lands were sold off about 1850. I'll have to go back to the deed index and see if there is a Caldwell listed then. By 1840, the Cladwell were in Simpson and Logan COs. That was great for 1820s but for locating in the 2000s WOW!! Thanks in advance Genealogy: Playing hide and seek, they hide and I seek!! Lynne Ditmore

    1. [KYHARDIN] Determining Townships
    2. Hi, all. This is general genealogy question. I have been taking advantage of Ancestry.com's new online census files but am having a terrible time figuring out which district files to look at. Most have very weird desciptions of the areas covered (like "from Old Bill Smith's, including him to ...") but most at least list a township. Does anyone know where I might find a listing of cities an what township they are in by state? I am looking for ancestors in MT, ND, IA, KS, KY, AR Thanks, Kathy
