Davis 1903 July 30 Widow's pension application # 788865 certificate # 572560 KY Mary L. Davis Alpheus died June 25, 1903 at York Ky. Mary L. Davis died April 9, 1920 of influenza. She was living at the time with her son George Davis and a grandchild, Beulah Webb who was 5 years old when Mary died. Full name of Wife: Mary Lusia Davis (Howland) Mary L. Howland and Alpheus Davis were married Aug. 3, 1865; Squire Hall officiated at Portsmouth Ohio. She had never been married before. Mary was born 1846 in Truitt, Greenup Co. KY Their children were: Luke A. Davis born in 1869 Alfred T. (J?) Davis born 1873 Matilda T. (J.?) Davis born 1875 Alvin? B. Davis born 1879 George E. Davis born 1880 Julia A. Davis born 1882 Ella L. Davis born 1884 Nancy A. Davis born 1886 Edgar A. Davis born 1884 Alpheus Davis suffered from a gunshot in his left arm at the Battle of Vicksburg in Miss. -Testimony from Mildred Thompson age 79 of York, Ky, on Nov. 19, 1903: "she virtually raised Mary at her own house ever since she was a child". -Testimony of Mary E. Whitt, 48 of York, Ky on Nov. 19, 1903 says she was a good friend of Mary -Testimony of John W. Thompson age 46 of York, KY on Sept, 24, 1903 and Ada McCahan 56 of Lynn -Testimony of Wm. J.V. Loper age 55 of Quincy in July, 1903 said he knew Alpheus for 50 years -Testimony of Wm. R. Whitt -Testimony of Wm.
