    3. To the List Members of Greenup County, Kentucky Research, In 1736, a settlement founded by French traders became the first village in the Kentucky lands. This settlement was located on the Ohio River in what became Greenup County, across from the present-day site of Portsmouth, Ohio. Harrodsburg, called the first permanent settlement in Kentucky, was not founded until 1774. The International Genealogical Index has a Lanna CRITSER/KRITZER who was supposedly born in Kentucky in 1773. The early birth makes me suspicious as to the accuracy of the information. If the name, birth year and birthplace are correst, then Lanna/Lavinia CRITZER must have been born in the area of the French traders' village, within the boundaries of modern-day Greenup County. What do you think? NOTE: Lanna CRITSER married Peter FEURT in 1801 or 1804, in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio. Randal W. Cooper <rwcooper@kellnet.com> Lorain, Ohio
