Hoping you can shed some light on an odd one. This is from the 2/24/1870 issue of the Ironton (OH) Register: A correspondent writes us from Big Sandy (KY) that John Bryan, living near the mouth of Rowe Creek, was born in 1755, which makes him 115 years old. The old gentleman can neither see nor walk, and can hear only a little. He was born at some fort in Maryland, and went into the Revolutionary War under Capt. Lee Morgan. First of all, would this be in Greenup County? I have tried to find the location, and can find little but a few references to Greenup. In the 1811 Census, there are listed a John and Zephaniah Bryan. I am descended from a family of Bryans that went from Maryland to Ohio around 1795. It just struck me as odd that there would be a note about this man in this Ohio paper if there was not some sort of connection (like him being an uncle or cousin) of someone local. Does Greenup have a "Big Sandy" that would be near the mouth of "Rowe Creek?" ************************************************************************* Betty Lou Riley () chipmunk@zoomnet.net ~{_)/ Ports.,Scioto Co., OH `` List Owner OHADAMS-L, KYGreenu-L, Crockett-L and McGOVNEY-L *Check out my Web site (Riley's Camp) at: http://www.zoomnet.net/~chipmunk/ *Look in the Forest for my Family trees.*
