Born in 1906, in Putnam County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Rose Wallace Conrad. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Chapman; and her children, Oretha, Robert, Margie, Virginia and Bassell. Oretha spent her life in Wurtland, Ky., where she enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening and canning. Surviving are her daughter, with whom she made her home these last days, Anna “Skeeter” Qualls of Hurricane; her sons, Ralph of Ironton, Ohio, Leo of Hurricane, Paul of Wurtland, Hursel and Gary, both of Greenup, Ky.; 53 grandchildren; 84 great-grandchildren; and 46 great-great-grandchildren. Service will be 1 p.m. Friday (March 19) at Chapman Funeral Home, 3941 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, WV, with the Rev. Jason Black officiating. Burial will be in Staten Chapel Cemetery, Milton, W.Va.
