    1. Three William M. Clarks and the Husband of Martha Ann Messer, 1864, Greenup County, Kentucky
    2. Randal W Cooper
    3. Dear Subscribers to the Greenup County, Kentucky Mailing List, Are there any researchers of the CLARK(E) surname on the List? William M. Clark married Martha A. Messer (daughter of Benjamin Pasley "Pass" Messer and Mary A. Conley) on July 3, 1864, according to the Annotated 1850 Census of Greenup County, as prepared by Evelyn Syphers Jackson. Does anyone know more about William M. Clark, such as who his parents were and what became of him after 1864? On January 18, 1870, Adoniram Cooper (1846-1875) married Martha A. Messer, in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio. They were lifelong residents of Greenup County, as far as I know. This bride was supposedly the same person as the Martha A. Messer who married William M. Clark in 1864 in Greenup County. Thus, according to this scenario, Adoniram Cooper was Martha A. Messer's second husband. In the Civil War, there was a Private William M. Clark who served in the Union Army's Tenth Kentucky Cavalry, Company "K", 1862-1863. There was also a Private William M. Clark (AND a William Clark) who served in the Union Army's Fifty-fourth Regiment of Kentucky Mounted Infantry, Company "F", 1864-1865. There was a William Clark who served in Company "I" of the Union Army's Forty-fifth Regiment of Kentucky Mounted Infantry, 1864-1865. Also in Company "I" was James PRATT, who, when he was mustered out in February of 1865, reenlisted as a veteran in the Fourth Regiment of Kentucky Veteran Infantry. Were the three William M. Clarks the same person? Thank you for any help in identifying William M. Clark (and James Pratt)! Sincerely, Randal W. Cooper
