Brenda, Have you ever run into an M. L. Stephenson who married Lucy Bailey, b. about 1890. Her parents were Samuel Thomas and Maggie Helen (Smith) Bailey. M. L. and Lucy (Bailey) Stephenson lived in Portsmouth during the time period 1913 to 1927. They may have lived there before and after those dates, but I do not know that for sure. I submit the following obituary as evidence of this relationship. The Ironton Evening Tribune Ironton, Ohio, Monday, June 27, 1927 Volume 2, Number 179, Page 2 SAMUEL BAILEY DIED SUNDAY Samuel Thomas Bailey, 67, who years ago served as deputy and as sheriff of Greenup County, Ky., died Sunday morning at 10:10 o'clock at his home on Tygart Creek. The greater part of his life was spent on his farm at Lynn, Ky. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. E. E. Pierce, Huntington, W.Va., Mrs. M. L. Stevenson, Portsmouth and Mrs. H. H. Mosley of Virginia. The funeral services will be held by Rev. I. V. Hayes, of Greenup with interment in Riverview cemetery under the direction of the Stapf Undertaking Company. Portsmouth Daily Times, Monday, June 27, 1927 Death Calls Former Greenup Sheriff Greenup, Ky., June 27 - Samuel Thomas Bailey, former sheriff and one of the leading citizens of Greenup county, died at his farm home at Lynn, eight miles southwest of Greenup, Sunday morning at ten o'clock, when he succumbed to an attack of heart disease from which he had been a suffer for several years. Mr. Bailey served as deputy sheriff for four years under the administration of Sheriff John Collins and was later elected as sheriff for a term of four years. After retiring from office he moved to his splendid farm, which he managed up until his fatal illness. He was 67 years old and a son of Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Bailey, pioneers of Greenup county, both now deceased, the mother having died about a year ago at the age of eighty years. He is survived by three children, Mrs. Bess Pierce, of Huntington, Mrs. Lucy Stephenson of Portsmouth and Mrs. Nancy Mosely of Virginia. Funeral services will be held from the Bailey homestead Tuesday with Rev. I. D. Hays, pastor of the Christian Church, of which the decedent was a member, in charge. Burial well be made in Riverview cemetery, Greenup, at one o'clock. Bruce Bruce E.
