Dear Subscribers to the Greenup County, Kentucky Mailing List, Lafayette Spriggs (ca.1843-1913) was one of four soldiers who provided affidavits for my third-great grandfather William Cooper's pension application. Spriggs and Cooper served in Company "E" of the Union Army's Twenty-second Regiment of Kentucky Volunteer Infantry. The affidavit was written in the 1880s in Greenup or Lewis County, Kentucky. I would like to correspond with anyone who is interested in the Spriggses, so that we can exchange information. One of the things I am going to try to find out is where in Ohio Benjamin F. Spriggs (1813-1871) was living between 1843 and 1849. Benjamin F. Spriggs was Lafayette's father. The second item of interest is Lafayette Spriggs's whereabouts around 1883. If I can locate Mr. Spriggs's residence in the 1880s, I may be able to locate the dwellingplace of William Cooper, since in the early 1880s, William Cooper was supposedly living near Lafayette Spriggs. I think that William Cooper was living in Greenup County around 1882, not far from the Lewis County line. In the 1880 Census of Greenup County, page 69B, Lafayette Spriggs had a Liberty post office address. That is not specific enough, however, to determine which hollow, which creek Mr. Spriggs lived in or on. Having a Liberty post office address did not mean that Mr. Spriggs could not have lived on Schultz Creek, Horse Hollow or Stockham/Stockholm Creek. Thank you for your help! Sincerely, Randal W. Spriggs Local relatives here returned from Normal and Ashland, Ky., where they were called by the death and funeral of Mrs. Amanda A. Spriggs. Mrs. Spriggs, the wife of Charles Spriggs, died at her home, Normal, Ky., October 14. She had been ill about three years and in a serious condition about nine months. Tuberculosis caused death. The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Logan of Greenup county, Ky. Most of her life was spent in the vicinity of Normal and Ashland, Ky.
