Dear Subscribers to the Greenup County, Kentucky Mailing List, Who were the parents of George W. Pratt (1823-1895)? George W. Pratt was born August 21, 1823 in Ohio and died January 24, 1895, perhaps in Greenup County, Kentucky. George W. Pratt was a shoemaker who lived in the village of Greenupsburg, Greenup County, Kentucky in 1860, 1870 and 1880. His wife was Eliza J./Elizabeth Callahan. Eliza J. Callihan was born January 25, 1830 and died December 31, 1903. George and Eliza had a number of children, among whom were Julia, daughter A.E., Sophronia, Indiana, Charles, Sarah/Sally, Mary and William. The 1880 Census of Greenup County, Kentucky has an interesting detail. In 1880, George W. Pratt's father ~AND~ mother were recorded as natives of VERMONT. If this is correct, George W. Pratt would not have been a son of John Pratt and Eliza Bellow, because Eliza Bellow was not born in Vermont, to my knowledge. Does anyone know where Eliza Bellow was born? John Pratt and Eliza Bellow had a son whose name Nina M. Biggs did not know. Some have written that perhaps George W. Pratt was that son. What about Lott H. Pratt? Lott H. Pratt was a brother of John Pratt. Lott H. Pratt was born in Vermont, but I do not recall the names of his wives or where they were married. George W. Pratt's birth in OHIO in 1823 is an important item of information. I am trying to find any connections between George W. Pratt and the Mr. Pratt who arrived in Scioto County, Ohio about 1813 from Vermont, in company with Captain Edward C. Sumner. I am beginning to suspect that the "1813 Vermont to Ohio" Mr. Pratt may have been the father of George W. Pratt, but that is purely conjecture at this point. The Mr. Pratt who arrived in Ohio about 1813 from Vermont might have moved from the French Grant, Scioto County, Ohio to another place in Ohio, before the Ohio birth of George W. Pratt. Therefore, the 1820 and 1830 Censuses of Ohio should be consulted, to see where all the Pratt households in Ohio were located in 1820 and 1830. That would be a start. Thank you for your help. Sincerely, Randal W. Cooper P.S. There is a conflicting birthplace for George W. Pratt, in the 1850 Census of Greenup County, Kentucky, which stated that he was born in Kentucky, not Ohio.
