    3. Derre (and list), I am not writing about Abel White although that is where I discovered your connection to James Osborn and Margaret Ann McGlone. Osborn(e) is my husband's line through Manoah (Noah). I have James married to first Abigail Greenslate but do not have her birth, death or marriage dates and later married to Margaret McGlone December 25, 1812 (Is there a verification of this date? I got it from a message board but there was no verification mentioned.). I am not certain if Manoah was Margaret's child or Abigail's child since I do not have a marriage date for Margaret or a death date for Abigail. I only know that in 1850, Margaret and James are the parents on the census. Can you help me with this? Are there any certificates or church records? The children that I am aware of are Squire b. May 30, 1835, Silas b. 1827, Nathan b. Jan 1828, Moses b. c 1831, Manoah b. c 1833, Owen b. c 1834, Lucinda b. c 1835, Malissa 1837, Amanda 1838, Ashley 1839, Serapta 1841, Thomas 1842, Charles 1845, Ellen 1847, Milanda 1848, America Martha, April 1850. If the Osborn-McGlone marriage took place in 1812, there must be other children. In fact in the census of 1850, I see many other Osborn(e)s, living close by, that I cannot connect to this family. My mother-in-law, Malinda Osborne Johnson, recently died but helped me with many early connections but she was never aware of James the father of Manoah (she only knew as far as Manoah). Her father must have been named after this earlier James, as his name was James, too. Her father is the son of Noah. Her father and his siblings are: James A. Osborn, Dec 17 1859 - Feb 17, 1931, Elizabeth, Dec 25, 1856, Nathan July 7, 1862 - June 10, 1938. James and Nathan were married to sisters, Helen Sidney Anderson and Frances America Anderson. Malinda was named after her 2 grandmothers, Malinda and Helen. She was Malinda Helen Osborne. It is interesting that this family uses the name both ways (Osborne and Osborn) Malinda always used the e but when I found her birth certificate after she died I see that on the birth certificate there is no e. She once told me a story about that. She said originally there was an e but somehow people stopped using the e. After her father lost out on an inheritance because there was no e on his name some of the family started using the e again. There is a story that her mother told her that her grandfather sold Baltimore. She always believed that since her mother told her the story that it must have been her mother's father, Levi Lewis Anderson who sold Baltimore. Recently I found a reference in the MD Historical Magazine that an Osborne sold 'Baltimore on the Bush' and that a log cabin on the site became the first court house for Baltimore County. Baltimore on the Bush (river) is located in Harford County currently but at that time it would have been part of Baltimore County since Harford County formed at a later date. In the magazine article it states that the Osborne's moved to North Carolina and I note that James came from Rowan County, South Carolina. There could be something here, I believe. Interesting how old stories can lead to interesting findings. Hope to hear from you and exchange information. Jean
