I'll post this too. i don't know if anyone needs this. It came from a McAllister gr-gr-gr-grandchild who kindly sent it to me. "My great great great grandfather (John McAllister) was the brother of James Benton McAllister, who married America Young. One of James and America's children, also named James, came out to Washington territory with the first wagon train of Amercan settlers. So, he's an important historical figure here. He was killed in the indian war of 1855-56." I have found his name in Chapter XIII: American Settlers organize a government, Incidents in 1843, 1844, and 1845. Without her information I would not have been able to make the connection. page 104 Immigration of 1844 >From an address before the Oregon Pioneer Association in 1876, by one of the number, Hon. John Minto, it appears that the immigration of 1844 only reached about 800, including children; that of the 235 able to bear arms who crossed the plains, two died on the way, and seventeen turned off to California. The following are the names of all, as near as could be ascertained by Mr. Minto and those assisting him, of the immigrants to the Pacific Coast that year. page 105 ...
