Author: jeanjo1 Surnames: Cain, Hood, Gants Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.greenup/6317.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have Cain's in my husband's genealogy. My husband's Cain was Mary Anne (Polly) Cain d/o Jacob Cain. In 1850 she had Anthony Cain living in her home who was probably related to her, possibly as a younger brother. (A little more about Anthony later with census info). She was married to Andrew Hood Jr. Both Cains were originally from VA. There was also Margaret Cain, d/o Robert Cain, who married Henry Hood (Henry was brother to Andrew Hood) nothing more is listed about this Margaret Cain in the Tunis Hood book. Nothing more is listed about Robert Cain or Jacob Cain either. Robert and Jacob Cain each probably had other children. Series: M432; Roll: 202; Page: 162 (KY, Greenup, 2-Dist) 1850-07-27 Andrew Hood, 66, farmer, Ky Mary Hood, 62, Va Jesse Hood, 21, farmer, Ky William Hood, 15, laborer, Kenty Francis Hood, 21, Kenty Anthony Cain, 50, farmer, Virginia There may have been 2 Anthony Cains living in two homes in 2nd dist of Greenup in 1850 but it appears to be the same one to me (aged 50 from Va). He was in the home of Joseph Gants and his wife Eveline on July 30 1850 page 168 of the same Greenup census. It looks like his living situation was not too stable. Maybe he was doing farm labor and moving about? He would have been about 35 when Margaret was born, I think. He could have been Margaret's father. Do you know anything about Joseph Gants or his wife in your records? He does not appear in our family's history. I do have a suggestion that you may have already tried. It is so simple you probably already tried it. I'll send it along anyway. Have you tried looking for a death certificate? If Margaret lived into her 60's many states had started death certificates by then. Some of the early certificates may not contain much information and others would. I don't know what the state of things was in MO. You might try looking for death certs for the two other Cain children too. In some references I think the name Cain is sometimes spelled as Kane but most often as Cain. Jean Johnson Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
