He was excited and amazed that people acknowledged his birthday. Your thoughtfulness was very much appreciated. As I was visiting with my dad on his birthday I asked him what he remembered about Carter and Greenup counties and he couldn't remember much since he left there 79 years ago when he was 20. He said he was born in Greenup county and lived 3 miles east of Kehoe and said Laurel was 4 miles from where he lived. In the early 1920's they moved to Carter City in Carter county. He said in the winter time the roads were so bad with mud they couldn't get out. He recalled that when they lived in Carter county, Bill McGuire had the mail route from Carter City to Grayson which he thought was about 15 miles. He said one time Bill McGuire left his horse and walked his mail route and when someone asked him where his horse was he said he could make better time without it. His said in Carter county the nearest and only neighbor was Robert Grizzle who lived across the hill from them. He said his uncle was Mack Arthur was Sheriff of Greenup county. (William McKinley Arthur, son of Benjamin Arthur and Hester Ann Reeves was sheriff from 1914-1917) That is about all he could remember at the time. Thank you all again.
