Good afternoon, I was wondering if someone would be willing to lookup a marriage license for me from the 1950's? Or would write & tell me where I can obtain a copy? Thank you for your time! Linda Hayes

I have suspected my GGGrandfather Morgan Pierce Carver likely had multiple marriages... as others' lines have Nancy Dooley... or Nancy Scott... My late grandmother Hattie Alva Morris Carver's bible lists Nancy Kitchen as Morgan's wife... We also cannot rule out dealing with multiple Morgan's. Morgan Pierce's father was also named Morgan and I have at least three wives for him... anyone of whom could have named their sons after Morgan too...

My maiden name was Kitchen and Mr. Allie Kitchen was a distant cousin of my father and he did live on Whetstone Road. His farm was large and on the banks of the Little Sandy River. He and his wife were the only Kitchen family on Whetstone and their home was a large two story surrounded by bottomlands. It was about 1 1/2 miles from Greenup and stood empty for many years after their death and was finally torn down by the new owners. The Boyles family or families also lived on Whetstone but I do not know of a connection between the two families. The Kitchens were originally from Carter Co. My family lived on the opposite side of the Little Sandy and he and my father were friends. I do know of one cemetery that is across the road and up a hill from the old Kitchen place and perhaps it is the one that you are talking about. Hope that this info will help you a little. June K.! I don't want to leave the impression that John had a grandson named Gabriel, thought he may have, because it is also likely, since Gabriel was born in Virginia that he was the son of a different Young, possibly Lewis Young, John's brother. Does anybody on the list know who Gabriel Young is? Jean _________ > Now, to speculate further, there is a Gabriel C. Young in the 1850 > census of Greenup who was 34 or born about 1816. Hi Kelly, No, I don't have any names of sons of John Young. Only girls are recorded in the Bible pages found in the Revolutionary War application. As far as I know there are no other children of john and Mary Young other than the 6 that have been so well documented. However, only a part of the Bible was needed to satisfy the requirements of the application. Other information could be contained in the missing pages (if there are any missing pages.) There are indications that they may have had other children. In the 1820 US census of Greenup Co there was only one male listed in the household of John Young, himself, aged 45 & over. In the 1810 census John Young, Greenup, has 1 male under the age of 10 and 2 males from 26 to under 44. The male under the age of 10 was not listed on the 1820 census so he may have died or married young. The 2nd male who was 26 to 44 (not John Young himself) could have been born as late as 1885. Now 1885 is before the usual date of marriage given for John and Mary Moore Young. However, there is some controversy about the actual date. It is listed as 12 March 1784 by Mary Moore Young herself on her statement taken near her time of death and given to Jesse Corum on 16 Apr 1857. John Young on 2 Nov 1842 states he was married 12 March 1785 and the Bible record agrees with him. Yet I think there is reason to wonder if 1784 is not the correct year and whether they did have a son who reached a marriageable age, either of the 2 males from the 1810 census who, as far as I know, are unaccounted for. Now, to speculate further, there is a Gabriel C. Young in the 1850 census of Greenup who was 34 or born about 1816. Who was his father? If John Young had a son as indicated in the 1810 census and who married by 1816 and therefore was not in the 1820 census at his father's household, he "may" have had a male descendants who could have been the father of Gabriel C. Young. BTW, our family descend from Jane S. Young and her husband, Gabriel Hannah and were married in 1812. To carry this speculation even further, it would not have been unusual for the name Gabriel to have been used by the Young family after the 1812 marriage. Well, that's the only indications I can find, and there is certainly no actual proof, but I think there are indications that they may have had a son or two who may have become of marriageable age. Now a question for you. What date do you have for Arimathea's marriage to Lewis Raison . It looks like either 17 February 1810 or 1811 to me in the Bible. The Greenup Library records show 14 Feb 1811. I assume they recorded a license Feb 14, 1811 but were married the 17th of 1811. Many of the dates in the Bible are one or two days after the dates in the Greenup Library records. Is that how you interpret it? As far as I've been able to determine, John Young and Mary (Moore) Young had six daughters: America L. Arimathea K. Polly Moore Elizabeth "Betsey" Nancy W. Jane S. Janie, I just found your email from the Greenup list on my computer. Sorry it took so long to find this. Do you know the name of the Young that Elizabeth Stantlee (Stanley) married? When I was in Greenup last summer, somehow I missed seeing the bridegroom page for the Youngs 1803 - 1853. I see in the 1850 census that Elizabeth Stanley Young Jenning's children were William Young, Catharine Young, and Ibba Young (male). I photographed some of the marriage records at the Greenup Co Library (last summer when I visited) and just happened to have the Young men who were married from 1854 - 1903. I have a copy of the part of the page that contains William Young. He married Elizabeth Boyse on 15 Dec 1859. I can send you the image if you want it. Are you researching the Youngs or the Jennings? I am researching the Youngs and I wonder how this Young who married Elizabeth Stantlee (Stanley) is related to John and Mary Young. I have 6 of John and Mary (Moore) Young's children (girls) but not the names of the other children.
