    3. My grandmother's name was Ida Belle Frances Enoch WILLIAMS b. 6/4/1880 in Elliott Co. & lived in Greenup Co. until her death 7/34/1962. I have noticed the given name of Enoch used with WILLIAMS in other families. Does anyone know why? Was Enoch a surname that was used as a given name passed down through families? Please give me your input on this. It seems that 4 given names are a lot of name. Mary health@nidlink.com

    3. In response to your plea for activity, I'll throw out some names. I am the granddaughter of Elizabeth Jane HOGSTON born in Greenup, Ky, in 1886. Her first husband (not my grandfather) was Green Birch ETHINGTON. I am intetresting in finding any info about the Ethington's and Hogston's in this area. The Hogston's I am descended from were from Saltville, VA, and possibly from Iredell Co., NC before that. I know this is vague but, any info would be appreciated. Cyndy Dr. Cynthia M. Galloway Assoc. 2. John R. Long
    3. Looking for help sorting out the Tripletts of Greenup Co, and later Boyd Co. Thomas Triplett came from Mason Co, and was a blacksmith associated with mining industries. His wife Lizzie Cartwright was an orphan raised by her grandfather, Moses Cartwright. They married about 1857, though no marriage record has been found. About 1870 they left KY for West TN where Thomas ran a furnace. Does anyone know of existant records of any of the furnaces/mines that might mention employees in the 1850-70 period? John R. Long

    3. I lived in Greenup County until early in World War II when military service brought permanently an end my residency in Kentucky. I am now living in the Tampa Bay Area of Florida (the former husband of my late sister, who grew up in Greenup County also lives here). We agree that there was a business in Greenup City operated by a Darby. I was acquainted with a young`man named George Darby from this Family. I am not aware of any official information. This young man, if still living, would be about my age (81). The 411 page for Greenup lists only: Leonard Darby, Low Gap Road, Greenup, Ky. 41144, Telephone (606) 473-9509. I am sorry I could be of no more help. Carl Fannin.

    3. Greenup researchers, As list coordinator, it's my responsibility to generate a little correspondence when the email stops. We now have (I just checked) 110 subscribers (70 in mail mode and 40 in digest format). However, I only see email about once a week or every two weeks. I would like to encourage everyone to post queries about your family, obituaries, census abstracts with annotations, Greenup related history, newspaper items, or anything else you can think of that would be of interest. I recently announced on the KY-ROOTS list the following Web site. Roadside Historical Moment http://grover.gtc.georgetown.ky.us/ This site provides links to historical road side markers throughout KY counties. An excellent idea and noteworthy site in my opinion! Also, I found another interesting URL labeled The Titanic Files http://www.thesmokinggun.com/titanic/titanic.html This site provides links to official documents relating to the Titanic, her crew and passengers. Finally, I will submit my primary Greenup County surnames for those interested: Bailey, Brown, Cochran, England, Giles, Heaberlin, Myers, Smith, Van Bibber Thank you, Darrell -- Darrell L. 3. Elora, My grandfather was Howard Tackett, s/o Henry and Emma Reynolds Tackett. Henry's parents were Lewis and Leandra Blankenship Tackett. Lewis's father was Lewis, Sr. who married Susannah Sumpter Tackett. The Tacketts came to Greenup Co., KY from Johnson/Morgan Co. Ky after 1885, but I haven't pinpointed it yet. Howard married Clara Markin and had 8 children including Elzie, Florence, Lucille, Luther, Ed, Don, Louise and Fern. Fern is my mother. Howard and Clara were also foster parents to Tommy Wilson. Henry and Emma had six children: Alonzo, Richard, Mary, Elizabeth, Howard and Charlie. I haven't located the names of Lewis and Leandra's children, nor the names of Lewis Sr. and Susannah's children. Anything you can add to this would be great! Thanks, Suzanne Rowe Porter

    3. Rick, If you haven't already done so, I would recommend that you also post this query on the KYCARTER-L@rootsweb list. Volumes of BLEVINS family members live(d) in Carter County, KY. I have quite a few in my own database since they married into my Carter County family lines. Does Riley BLEVINS b. 1817 in Lee County, VA and married to Sarah BARKER b. about 1820 in Wilkes County, NC ring a bell for you? Several of their children married into my STEVENS/STEPHENS line.
