    3. Paul, would you be willing to look for graves of my gr grandarents in your book? Both died in Greenup Co. and I presume are buried there. I have searched for these graves for many years. He is JOHN HALL b 1805 in Pa. and died 8 June l851 in Greenup Co. She is ISABELLA (WORTHINGTON) HALL b 7 Aug l804 in PA. and died 9 Juily l864. An elderly aunt says she thought she ws buried near Argillite. ISABELLA was an aunt of WM. JACKSON WORTHINGTON (1882-1914) who lived in Greenup and was Lt. Gov. of KY about l895. I thought perhaps they might be buried in his burying ground. Thanks for you help. Helen.

    2. REFERENCE MESSAGES POSTED IN THE GREENUP MAIL LISTS. IT WOULD BE NICE IF EACH PERSON WOULD PUT THEIR NAME AND E-MAIL ADDRESS AT THE END OF EACH POSTED MESSAGE SO WE COULD E-MAIL DIRECT IF WE HAD A QUESTION OR INFORMATION TO PASS ALONG. I ALWAYS GIVE MY NAME AND E-MAIL ADDRESS: PAUL LEADINGHAM, AT LEADINGHAM@AOL.COM.

    3. I am waiting for a Worthington researcher to visit to show him this message. He will probably be here today, Sunday. If not I will forward the message to his work Monday. I have links to the KY vital stats on my home page in the sig line. I remember Finn Worthington who lived on Pond Run Road, he had a garage where we hung out to work on hotrods. 1. [KYGREENU-L] [MOORE-L] Genealogy Research Hints
    2. Some very good research questions to ask yourself. ************************************************************ *********** Are all dates for events in proper order? Are all abbreviations correct? Is every fact documented? Have you found your ancestor in every census of his/her life? Have you looked for citizenship or naturalization papers? Was the father married more than one time? Do all the children belong to one wife? Is a pattern evident in the children's names? Did the father serve in the military? If yes, what war? Did the family own land? Have you found the father's will and probate records? Have you researched tax lists and church records? Figuring the dates, how many children could the mother have had? Do all her children belong to one husband? If widowed, did she live with her children in later years? Do you have the children listed in correct birth order? Do you have place of birth and marriage information for each child? Have you followed each child in the census to see if a parent or grandparent is living with them? Have you checked to see if a book was ever written about your family? Have you checked to see if your families are in the Family History Center? Have you entered your family in the Ancestral File? Have you considered that your ancestor may have kept a diary? Have you plotted your family's migration pattern? Have you placed queries on your families in all the genealogical periodicals? Review documents acquired over time. New clues will surface that were missed the first time, or the information didn't fit with your data at that time. Those papers filed away should be REVIEWED OFTEN. You will be surprised how clues just seem to grow after being put away! ==== MOORE Mailing List ==== For instructions for subscribing and unsubscribing: http://www.rootsweb.com/~sueskay/lists/moore-l.htm

    3. Somehow the message about FINLEY WORTHINGTON and his wife,LYDIA CHAPMAN was really mixed up. FINLEY is really FINLEY ALBERT WORTHINGTON and his wife was LYDIA CHAPMAN. FINLEY was the son of JAMES D. WORTHINGTON and his second wife, NAOMI WILSON. FINLEY was not born in the 1700's but was born in l872 and died in l921. He lived in Greenup Co. Helen.

    2. Hi, I was looking into the Greenup County genealogy page and found your email address. I am interested in the Worthingtons in Greenup. My grandfather was Finley Worthington, married to Lydia Chapman. I emailed Helen Della-Volpe (her name was next to yours on this Greenup page). She has a whole file on the Worthingtons in Greenup but the Finley she said was mine, I don't believe it is. She is going to look it up and get back to me. My Finley was born Aug. 1784. His wife Lydia was born in 1783. I found both of their death records on the same Greenup page. Now I am looking for Finley's father but I haven't found the family on the 1880 or 1910 census. Do you know where I could get death certificates? Would I contact the Kentucky Archives or the Greenup County Courthouse?

    1. [KYGREENU-L] Oney/Sizemore/Maggard/Stephenson etc. Pictures
    2. I am hoping to open a web site (if AOL will ever send me their server address and mail addresses so I can install Netscape) in the near future. I plan to include a few pictures, one is a school picture from Alcorn from the early 1900's. The names above are a few of the family's represented. Another is a recently acquired picture of George Golden Hawk Sizemore. Although the picture names him as Sam Golden Hawk Sizemore. Does anyone know why this would be? Was his middle name Samuel? I'm not sure how well the pictures will scan but I'll give it a good try. I'll include all of the Sizemore information I have acquired thus far. I'll let you know when it is open. Sherry Campbell, d/o Janet Sizemore

    2. Carol, I'm sorry I don't have the answer to your question (yet!). First, I would like to ask is this Susannah the daughter of George "Golden Hawk" SIZEMORE and Sarah "Sally" ANDERSON? They were Floyd Co Sizemores during that time and have a daughter Susan, although I don't show any dates or marriages for her in my data base. Secondly, In case you don't already know, Russell and Flatwoods KY are essentially the same place they are nestled together just across from Ashland and just a few miles up the road from Greenup. I come from George "Golden Hawk", then George "Goshen", then William, who was my grandfather. William (and maybe his parents) came to Greenup. William was decended through Golden Hawk's family with Aletha Richison. William's wife Edith (MONTGOMERY) also decends from Golden Hawk through his other family by Sally ANDERSON. I may have paperwork that will show a link between a Susannah and Douglas ONEY, I know the Oney's were in Greenup. Sherry

    1. [KYGREENU-L] epidemics by year
    2. Linda Peterson
    3. Hello fellow rooters, I thought some of you might find the following information helpful, considering the most recent thread on the list. In case you ever wondered why a large number of your ancestors disappeared during a certain period in history, this might help. Epidemics have always had a great influence on people - and thus influencing, as well, the genealogists trying to trace them. Many cases of people disappearing from records can be traced to dying during an epidemic or moving away from the affected area. Some of the major epidemics in the United States are listed below. Linda Peterson<Ldkp@gdi.net 1657 Boston: Measles 1687 Boston: Measles 1690 New York: Yellow Fever 1713 Boston: Measles 1729 Boston: Measles 1732-33 Worldwide: Influenza 1738 South Carolina: Smallpox 1739-40 Boston: Measles 1747 Conn, NY, PA & SC: Measles 1759 North America (areas inhabited by white people): Measles 1761 North America & West Indies: Influenza 1772 North America: Measles 1775 North America (especially hard in New England): Epidemic (unknown) 1775-76 Worldwide: Influenza (one of worst flu epidemics) 1788 Philadelphia & NY: Measles 1793 Vermont: Influenza and a "putrid fever" 1793 Virginia: Influenza (killed 500 people in 5 counties in 4 weeks) 1793 Philadelphia: Yellow Fever (one of worst) 1783* Delaware (Dover) "extremely fatal" bilious disorder 1793 Pennsylvania (Harrisburg & Middletown) many unexplained deaths 1794 Philadelphia: Yellow Fever 1796-97 Philadelphia: Yellow Fever 1798 Philadelphia: Yellow Fever (one of worst) 1803 New York: Yellow Fever 1820-23 Nationwide: "fever" (starts on Schuylkill River, PA & spreads) 1831-32 Nationwide: Asiatic Cholera (brought by English emigrants) 1832 New York & other major cities: Cholera 1837 Philadelphia: Typhus 1841 Nationwide: Yellow Fever (especially severe in South) 1847 New Orleans: Yellow Fever 1847-48 Worldwide: Influenza 1848-49 North America: Cholera 1850 Nationwide: Yellow Fever 1850-51 North America: Influenza 1852 Nationwide: Yellow Fever (New Orleans 8,000 die in summer) 1855 Nationwide (many parts) Yellow Fever 1857-59 Worldwide: Influenza (one of disease's greatest epidemics) 1860-61 Pennsylvania: Smallpox 1865-73 Philadelphia, NY, Boston, New Orleans, Baltimore, Memphis & Washington DC: A series of recurring epidemics of Smallpox, Cholera, Typhus, Typhoid, Scarlet Fever & Yellow Fever 1873-75 North America & Europe: Influenza 1878 New Orleans: Yellow Fever (last great epidemic of disease) 1885 Plymouth, PA: Typhoid 1886 Jacksonville, FL: Yellow Fever 1918 Worldwide: Influenza (high point year) More people hospitalized in World War I from Influenza than wounds.
