Dear Mark Hovila and Other Greenup County, Kentucky Researchers, Mark, your ancestor Benjamin Franklin BARNEY was a brother of Squire BARNEY. With their older brother Thomas Marion BARNEY they made up the "Barney Triumvirate" of Greenup County, Kentucky from about 1819 on. According to Biggs and McCoy, they settled on Tygart and Schultz Creeks in Greenup County. These three brothers were sons of John BARNEY, our mutual ancestor. John BARNEY entered Greenup County about 1818 or so. He came from western Pennsylvania, and before that from Maryland. Randal W. Cooper <rwcooper@kellnet.com> Lorain, Ohio
Dear Paul Howard, Patricia ____ and Interested Parties, Thank you so much, Paul and Patricia, for taking the time to post 1850 annotated census transcriptions on the BARNEYs and KRITZERs of Greenup County, Kentucky. I have carefully read all of the information, yet the answers continue to elude us regarding the Emma BARNEY and Samuel KRITZER who married in Greenup County, 28 Jul 1859. The Samuel KRITZER who was enumerated in the 1850 Census of Greenup County was born in Brooke County, [West] Virginia in 1818 [a son of Peter CRITSER] and married the widow Rebecca DOUGLAS BARNEY, 29 Oct 1841, in Greenup County. He died about 1895 in Greenup County, Kentucky, and is buried in Leonhart Cemetery, also known as Short Branch Cemetery, in said county. This Samuel CRITSER/KRITZER also appeared in the 1870 and 1880 Censuses of Greenup County, as married to Rebecca, but was NOT included in the 1860 Census of Greenup County. Where did he go? One year before the 1860 Census, a Samuel KRITZER [who was he?] married an Emma BARNEY [a widow? who were her parents?], 28 Jul 1859. Identifying these two individuals could pave the way to a solution as to Samuel KRITZER's whereabouts in 1860! By the way, I am a fourth-great grandson of Rebecca DOUGLAS BARNEY KRITZER. Again, thanks for your help. Randal W. Cooper <rwcooper@kellnet.com> Lorain, Ohio
Dear Greenup County, Kentucky Researchers, Emma BARNEY married Samuel KRITZER, 28 Jul 1859, according to the Marriage Records of Greenup County, Kentucky. Was Emma BARNEY a widow when she married Samuel KRITZER? Who were her parents? And, what relationship was this Samuel KRITZER to Samuel KRITZER, husband of Rebecca DOUGLAS BARNEY? Randal W. Cooper <rwcooper@kellnet.com> Lorain, Ohio
Some of my ancestors lived in Greenup County at one time, namely: Benjamin R. TOWNSEND, who was born in Greenup Co. on 1 Aug 1833. He married Lucinda BARNEY, who was born in Greenup Co. 9 Dec 1835. They had four children: Jackson TOWNSEND (b KY), Henry Clay TOWNSEND (b KY), Lavenda Ann TOWNSEND (b MO) and Elizabeth W. TOWNSEND (b MO). Lucinda BARNEY's parents were Benjamin Franklin BARNEY and Lula Cynthia (Sitha) GREENSLATE. I would welcome discussion with anyone who recognizes any of these names. Dear Greenup County, Kentucky Researchers, Are you familiar with the Critsers who lived in Greenup County from about 1830 on? John Kritzer appeared in the 1830 and 1840 Censuses of Greenup County. A John Critser also lived in Scioto County, Ohio in the 1830's. Were these two John Critsers the same person? Samuel Kritzer [son of Peter Critser] married the widow Rebecca Douglas Barney 19 Oct 1841 in Greenup County. Apparently they lived in the town of Greenupsburg at first. I am a fourth-great grandson of Rebecca Douglas, whose daughter Martha Ann Barney married William Cooper, 6 May 1846, in Liberty [Lynn], Greenup County, Kentucky. Samuel Critzer the carpenter [husband of Rebecca] was enumerated in the 1850, 1870 and 1880 Censuses of Greenup County. On 28 Jul 1859, a Samuel Critser married Emma Barney, in Greenup County. My object now is to find the parents of this bride and groom. Barney researchers, can you help me? Samuel Kritzer, husband of Rebecca Douglas Barney, lived on Allcorn Creek, near the farms of the Long and Owens families, from the 1870's until his death, about 1897. Thanks! Randal W. Cooper <rwcooper@kellnet.com> Lorain, Ohio
