    1. [KYGREENU-L] Cemeteries
    2. Wm. W.Turner wrote: Dear Ed Cooper of Mass., What other cemetery are you interested in, and exactly where is Mt. Ebo cemetery? I am aware of where Limeville is located but I'm not aware of any cemetery near there other than the cemetery located at Siloam. Is this Mt. Ebo a cemetery where anyone can freely get to? Wm. This cemetery is located on top of Limeville hollow. I believe it is public. I have an Uncle who lives in Anderson, In. who can give me directions. I haven't been there since I was a child. If I can come up with the directions do you think you could go there and get some info off the headstones for me. If this is possible I will gladly pay you for your time and any monetary compensation. (gas etc..) Let me know. Ed Cooper

    1. Unidentified subject!
    2. I would like to correspond with anyone who might be researching Alfred Failor, 1820-1901 of Greenup co., KY, or the Failor family. I've seen the name spelled several ways, in the Carter and Greenup cos Census records alone I've seen Alfred Fraley, Farley, and Frailer. Alfred Failor lived in the Kehoe area of Greenup co. and married twice. His first wife was Amelia "Millie" Hawkins and they had three children: 1. Narcissa (died young - 6 June 1857, Greenup co.), 2. Sarah Jane (1846-1886, m. Finley Worthington - my great great grandparents), and 3. Faith Ann (1849-1885, m. Benjamin Franklin Warnock - he later married Mary Ellis Ramey). Alfred's second wife was Susan Alexander, but they had no children. Alfred, Amelia, Susan, and daughter Sarah Worthington are all buried in the Kehoe Cemetery. Thank You Patrick Worthington pworthin@averittexpress.com

    1. [KYGREENU-L] Siloam and Mt Ebo Cemeteries
    2. I am looking for any body who lives near or has family buried in either one of these cemeteries. I am particularly interested in the Mt. Ebo cemetery as I believe this is my families old burial place. I remember going there when I was a child and it had the names of my ancestors, Cooper, Meadows and Penix. It is located at Limeville. I live in Massachusetts and it is impossible for me to get back to Greenup till at least the spring. Any help will be appreciated. Ed Cooper

    2. Hi, I am looking for information on family of Joab Meadows. Joab had a son named Jordon who Married a Louisa Pruitt. They had a daughter named Minerva. Jordon was killed in the Civil War in 1863. Louisa then married a James Meadows from the Lewis Meadows family. Joab Meadows also had a daughter named Eada Meadows who married a Gilbert Penix. Gilbert and Eada Penix raised an Elizabeth Meadows as one of there own children. I am trying to find out where Elizabeth Meadows fit into the family. Was she a Niece, Cousin, an out of wedlock child from either Eada or one of her children? If anybody has any information at all on this family please respond. Elizabeth Meadows is my Great grandmother and I can't seem to find any information about her or her "real" family at all. Thank you. Ed Cooper

    1. [KYGREENU-L] 1736 French Settlement in pre-Greenup Co KY Area
    2. Randal W Cooper
    3. To the List Members of Greenup County, Kentucky Research, In 1736, a settlement founded by French traders became the first village in the Kentucky lands. This settlement was located on the Ohio River in what became Greenup County, across from the present-day site of Portsmouth, Ohio. Harrodsburg, called the first permanent settlement in Kentucky, was not founded until 1774. The International Genealogical Index has a Lanna CRITSER/KRITZER who was supposedly born in Kentucky in 1773. The early birth makes me suspicious as to the accuracy of the information. If the name, birth year and birthplace are correst, then Lanna/Lavinia CRITZER must have been born in the area of the French traders' village, within the boundaries of modern-day Greenup County. What do you think? NOTE: Lanna CRITSER married Peter FEURT in 1801 or 1804, in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio. Randal W. Cooper <rwcooper@kellnet.com> Lorain, Ohio

    2. Pamela Sayre
    3. Betty Lou, Thanks for getting me on the Greenup Co. discussion list. Here is my brief family history that I would like to get out there for help. I have researched everything Greenup has on micro film and have been to Greenup Co. (briefly) twice. Abner Holt married 10/27/1834 Massey Crane with Rueben Barber as bondsman. (Rueben Barber himself married Mary Frances Crain). James Holt married 2/20/1835 Ann(a) Crane with Abner W. Holt as bondsman with consent of Nancy (Holt) mother of Ann, and consent of Abner Holt. Abner & Massey are never in the Greenup records after their marriage. Nancy Holt appears in 1850 age 65 born in Va with son John Holt age 22 born in Va. James and Ann(a) continue to live in Greenup and raise their family. Children: 1. Mildred A. 2. Francis 3. Abner 4. Catherine 5. John (James) 6.Mary 7. Amanda (my great grandmother) 8. Bell. Abner fought in Civil War and went to Elizabeth Township in Lawrence Co. Oh. Mary married John Henry Ramey and remained in Greenup Co. I believe Bell died about the same time as Ann(a) before 1870. Amanda never married, but had 1. Laura Holt Williams 2. Tom (Thomas) Holt killed on the C&O 1916. 3. William Holt married Maggie Roberson and lived in Wurtland 4. John Holt my (grandfather) married Georgia Roberson and lived at Wurtland. I am looking for the parentage of Abner and James and where in Va they were from. I think there is a strong connection between the Crane's and Holt and Mosley's. Catherine Crane married Preston Mosley and in 1850 Nancy and John lived in close proximity. Help! 2. On Jan 2nd I forwarded a letter I received about the Congress voting on the Long distance charges to the Internet. I have made a big mistake by sending these out. I am very sorry and I do apologize to each and every one of you. I was given this message and I assumed it was true. I should have checked my facts before I sent these out. Again I do apologize and nothing like this will ever happen again. Ed Cooper

    2. The last time I was there (Spring 1998) I was sent to the library by the courthouse staff. That's where we found records and materials for research. The reply from court house staff was, "We don't have anything here anymore it's at hte library." Bob Meenach
