    1. [KYGREENU-L] "County Court Day", Mid-1800's
    2. Randal W Cooper
    3. Dear Researchers of Greenup County, Kentucky, During my last visit to the Greenup County Public Library, I read that a certain May the Fifth was "County Court Day" in Greenup County, Kentucky. Why I did not write what YEAR was being discussed, I will never know! You can be sure I have been lamenting it! But I do remember that it was in the mid-1800's. This "County Court Day" issue has really stirred my interest, and I will explain why. Could someone tell me how often "County Court Day" was held? Was it every month? Or, was it held quarterly, or only once a year? Finally, what happened on "County Court Day"? Would land transactions have been more likely to be recorded on "County Court Day"? How about marriages? If someone could describe a "County Court Day" to me, I would be so grateful, because my third-great grandfather William COOPER may have been married on a "County Court Day" [6 May 1846], and he might also have purchased two tracts of land on a "County Court Day" [7 Jul 1847]. I have found at least three more deeds that bore this same date, 7 Jul 1847. There might be some facet of "County Court Day" that will lead me to more information on my elusive ancestor William COOPER. Thank you for your help, and, "See you on County Court Day"! Randal W. Cooper <rwcooper@kellnet.com> Lorain, Ohio

    2. Pam Sayre
    3. Sandy Miller, My father who was born and raised in Greenup Co. says that Hoods Creek was south of route #23 between Russell and Ashland. He doesn't remember the route #, but says that you turned south (away from the Ohio River) almost directly in front of Armco Steel and that road took you to Hoods Creek. He says that the same route would eventually wind back to Flatwoods. Hope this somewhat helps. Perhaps someone else has precise directions. Pamela Holt Sayre sayre@sierra.net

I'm not sure but I think it may have been two cemeteries at one time. I have a brother and Grandparents buried there. Your direction distances maybe a little off but close enough. The "Y" right fork is White Oak. Just a short distance down White Oak there is a cabin on the right side. Next to the cabin is a lane that goes back and up to the cemetery. It's hard to see from the road. The "Y" in the road is more like 1 mile from the store on the corner. If you contact Morton's Funeral Home there at South Shore, I'm sure they can tell you who's in charge of the cemetery. Bob Meenach Circleville, OH
