To All Subscribers: This is being posted to this list, with permission! Please read! Thanks, Betty Lou, Listowner **************************************************************************** *** As you all know, I do NOT allow posting of virus warnings on this Mailing List (since 99% of them are hoaxes) however, I must make an exception in this instance! A new virus (actually created on January 20th) entitled... HAPPY99.EXE is being rapidly spread and, having received a copy of same from a subscriber of this Mailing List, it is imperative you all be made aware of same, which is _unknowlingly_ being spread as an attachment to e-mail messages... even the sender does not realize it is being sent! If you receive an e-mail message from anyone with the attachment... HAPPY99.EXE ... do NOT attempt to "open" said attachment... it IS a 'worm' virus. Immediately delete the message AND the HAPPY99.EXE attachment. PLEASE do NOT post any follow-up message on this Mailing List however, I encourage everyone to connect to the following URL address, for complete details... http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/happy99.worm.html "Remember that any files can be easily renamed. So conceivably someone could rename the HAPPY99.EXE file to any other filename, such as SAD99.EXE etc." Bottom Line: If you receive an e-mail message with any attached .EXE files from someone you DON'T know, delete the message (and the attachment). And if you receive an e-mail message with any attached .EXE files from someone you DO know, delete the message (and the attachment)." Hi List, I am researching the Gilbert Penix family from Kentucky. I am trying to find out how my Grandmother fits into this family. I am very interested in Gilbert's son John Penix's family. The family talk is that after my grandmother's parents died, she at a young age was raised by "Uncle John Penix's family" My Grandmother's name was Mary D Blevins. Her father was listed in a 1900 Census of Greenup County, Ky as a widowed son in law living in the home of Gilbert Penix. Her death certificate has her mother listed as Elizabeth Meadows. I am not positive but, am leaning to the assumption that this is an error and her name was really Elizabeth Penix born in 1874. Two of John Penix's children married "Coopers" Milford Penix married a Rebecca Jane Cooper, I have no info on either one of them. His sister Myrtle Penix born May 3, 1894 died Feb. 15, 1977 buried in Siloam Cemetery, Ky. Married Tom Cooper born June 13, 1887. They were married on May 31, 1917. My grandmother (Mary Blevins) married Tom Cooper's older brother William at the home of Gilbert Penix. On September 27, 1910. William, Mary, Tom and Myrtle all bought land in "Limeville Hollow" and lived there thier whole lives. Any info on any of these people will be greatly appreciated. Especially: The death date of Elizabeth Penix, was she ever married? Milford Penix and Rebecca Cooper, Marriage, deaths, children, .......Rebeccas parents? Myrtle Penix and Tom Cooper's children. I know one was named ........Paul, and he passed recently. Thank you, Ed

The Family History Center has Land Records on Lawrence Co., OH so they may have it for Greenup Co., KY. I do have a partial index up of Land records on my Lawrence Co Web site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohlawren.land.htm We are not done transcribing the index but you can take a peek to what is there:) Heather >> Hi all, I made a mistake on the URL, sorry about that! My grandmother's name was Nora Belle Cameron;she was born in Greenup County, Kentucky. Any information would be helpful. Thank you Nora Brown

Hi All, I just received some information from a wonderful women that has opened up some new possibilities. I have been trying to locate the mother of my grandmother Mary Dicey Blevins. On her death certificate her mother is listed as Elizabeth Meadows married to Peter Blevins (from Ashe County, NC) I have Peter and his two children listed as a Widowed son in law and grandchildren of Gilbert Penix in a 1900 Greenup County, KY Census. This Lady has obtained a marriage license for my Grandfather and Grandmother (William Cooper and Mary D. Blevins) They were married at the house of Gilbert Penix in Siloam, Ky. Giving further proof that she was indeed related to Gilbert and family. Does anyone have any info on any of Gilbert Penix's daughters: Elizabethborn 1874, Eveline born 1859 Johnson Co..... KY, Mary born 1860, Missouri born 1861, Minerva born1863,and Rachel born 1876. I am looking for spouses names, death dates, anything at all. Thank you all very much for your time and I look forward to hearing from you, Ed Cooper
Dear Researchers of Greenup County, Kentucky, With the help of Rebecca Patterson and another staff member at the Greenup County Public Library, I have received the answer as to the identity of the cemetery in which my great great grandfather Adoniram COOPER was buried. What I have been puzzled about is why I always heard the cemetery referred to as the SHORT Branch Cemetery, when it is located just off COAL Branch Road. It was pointed out to me that the unimproved road that the cemetery is on is NOT a dead end road, as shown on the detailed map of Greenup County. Instead, the road, a north-south-running road, goes on through to Short Branch! I would never have known that by looking at the map. So, one CAN reach the cemetery by going down Short Branch Road, then turning right, on up to the cemetery, which is also sometimes called the Leonhart Cemetery. By the way, of all the many COOPERs buried in Greenup County, Adoniram COOPER is the ONLY ONE that I am related to, that I KNOW of, that is! No, there was one more, but I do not know where he was buried: Adoniram COOPER's brother Valentine COOPER, who died in 1852 at the age of three years. Adoniram's father William COOPER and Adoniram's brother Artemas COOPER were both buried in Jackson County, West Virginia, in 1903 and 1908 respectively. Randal W. Hi, Daryl. Anything new on the RAYS of Greenup Co.? Helen
There is a "Hood's Run" which I believe runs along the east side of Tygart (Tiger) Creek. To access this road, you take RR #7 out of South Shore KY until you get to RR#2 (Raccoon Rd). Turn left on RR#2 and go about 1-2 miles, to the bottom of Racoon Hill. Hood's Run turns to the left and RR#2 continues on to the right and up Racoon Hill. Hood's Run road runs for quite a distance back to the north.
